Bathtubs
Our Bathtubs collection includes more than 470 tubs for remodels and new builds: freestanding soaking tubs, skirted alcove tubs, drop-in tubs, clawfoot styles and jetted models. It is designed for homeowners and contractors planning a bathroom around a new centerpiece, and most tubs fall between about $850 and $2,700. Brands include ANZZI, Woodbridge and Vanity Art.How to choose a bathtubMeasure the space and the path inAlcove tubs fit a three wall recess and are most often 60 inches long by 30 or 32 inches wide; measure the recess at several heights because walls are rarely square. Freestanding tubs need 4 to 6 inches of clearance on each side for cleaning and a comfortable look, plus space for a floor or wall mounted filler. Before you order, check that the tub will fit through doors, hallways and stair turns on the way to the bathroom.Get the drain side and plumbing rightFor alcove tubs, stand facing the tub: if the drain is on your left, it is a left hand drain. Matching your existing drain location saves a lot of labor. End drain tubs put the drain at one end, which suits a wall faucet, while center drain tubs let two people recline at either end. Freestanding tubs often need a floor mounted tub filler and a new supply line, so plan that with your plumber.Compare materials and weightAcrylic is light, warm to the touch and easy to repair, making it the most common choice. Solid surface and stone resin tubs hold heat longer and have a matte, heavier feel. Cast iron is extremely durable but can weigh 300 pounds or more empty. Add the weight of water (about 8.3 pounds per gallon) and a bather, and confirm older floors can carry the load, especially upstairs.Choose depth and comfortStandard tubs hold about 14 to 15 inches of water; soaking tubs often go to 18 inches or deeper. Check the interior length, back slope and overflow height rather than only outside dimensions, since the overflow sets the true water depth. Taller bathers usually want 66 inches or more.Bathtub types at a glanceFreestanding tubs make a design statement and work well in larger rooms. Alcove and skirted tubs are the practical choice for tub and shower combinations. Drop-in tubs sit inside a built deck you finish with tile or stone, and jetted whirlpool or air tubs add hydrotherapy but need a dedicated electrical circuit and pump access.Orders of $999 or more ship free within the United States; a $200 flat rate applies below that.
