Chairs & Accent Seating

Chairs & Accent Seating covers the single seats that finish a room: club chairs, leather accent chairs, chaises, armchairs and side chairs for living rooms, bedrooms, reading corners and offices. There are more than 70 pieces here, and most fall between about $165 and $2,100.
How to choose an accent chair
Start with scale and placement
Measure the spot where the chair will go and the furniture around it. Accent chairs typically run 28 to 36 inches wide and 30 to 38 inches deep, while club chairs and chaises take more floor area. Keep about 30 inches of walkway in front of or beside the chair, and set a side table within easy reach. When pairing a chair with a sofa, match the arm and seat heights within an inch or two so the group reads as one arrangement.
Check comfort dimensions
Seat height of 17 to 19 inches suits most adults. A seat depth of 20 to 22 inches is good for upright conversation chairs; deeper seats of 23 inches or more are better for reading and lounging. Taller people will appreciate a higher back that supports the head and shoulders. For a reading chair, try a slight recline and arms at elbow height.
Compare frames and upholstery
Hardwood frames such as rubberwood, birch or oak with corner blocks are stronger than particleboard. Top grain and full grain leather age well and wipe clean, while bonded leather costs less but wears faster. Microfiber and performance fabrics resist stains and suit homes with pets and kids. Velvet and boucle add texture and color but may need more care. Check whether cushions are attached or loose; loose cushions can be flipped and fluffed to even out wear.
Choose a style that ties the room together
An accent chair is a good place to add a contrasting color, texture or shape, such as saddle tan leather in a gray room or a curved silhouette next to a boxy sofa. Repeat one element, like leg finish or wood tone, from nearby pieces so the chair still feels connected. A pair of matching chairs facing a sofa creates a balanced, symmetrical seating area.
Main product types
The collection includes leather club chairs and accent chairs, modern upholstered side chairs in fabric and metallic finishes, chaise pairs and lounge seating, and chairs with matching pillows. HomeRoots contributes a number of pieces to this range.
