Bathroom vanity sizes follow a short list of standard widths: 24, 30, 36, 48, 60 and 72 inches. Most cabinets are about 21 inches deep and stand somewhere between 30 and 36 inches tall once the top is on. The width that works depends on your wall, plumbing and sink clearances, so this guide covers all three with real listings.
Standard bathroom vanity sizes at a glance
According to Angi (angi.com/articles/common-vanity-sizes.htm), standard widths run from 24 to 72 inches: single vanities 24 to 48 inches, doubles 48 to 72 inches. The fit notes below are our math, based on the clearances quoted further down.
| Vanity width | Sinks | Typical fit (our math) | Example on our site |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 20 in | 1 small | Powder rooms, RVs, tight hall baths | Bellaterra Home 16 in., 16.14 in W x 16.14 in D x 34.25 in H, ceramic sink included, $548.00 |
| 24 in | 1 | Small baths. A centered sink sits 12 in from each edge, so leave some wall on each side | Bellaterra Home Forli 24 in., 24 x 21.5 x 34.5 in, cabinet only, $741.60 |
| 30 in | 1 | Guest and hall baths. A centered sink sits 15 in from each edge | Forli 30 in., 30 x 21.5 x 34.5 in, cabinet only, $835.20 |
| 36 in | 1 | Main baths with some counter space beside the sink | Forli 36 in. (left door), 36 x 21.5 x 34.5 in, cabinet only, $946.80 |
| 48 in | 1 or 2 | One sink with generous counter, or two if spacing allows | Forli 48 in. double, 48 x 21.5 x 34.5 in, cabinet only, $1,400.40 |
| 60 in | 1 or 2 | Two sinks about 30 in apart when each is centered in its half | Forli 61 in. double, 61 x 22 x 35.5 in, marble top and two sinks included, $2,637.00 |
| 72 in | 2 | Two sinks about 36 in apart, the NKBA recommended spacing | White Double Bath Vanity 72 in., 72 x 22 x 34.25 in, marble top and faucet set included, $3,162.99 |
One detail catches people out: cabinet width and top width are not always the same. The Bellaterra Home 25 in. quartz top ($374.00) is listed as fitting a standard 24 in W x 21 in D cabinet. It measures 25 x 22 in, so it overhangs the cabinet by about half an inch on each side and an inch at the front. Between two walls, measure the top, not the cabinet.
Standard bathroom vanity height vs comfort height
Angi gives 30 to 36 inches as the standard range, noting some brands call 30 to 34 inches standard and 35 to 36 inches comfort height. The construction guide adapted on InspectApedia puts the traditional sink height at 30 to 32 inches and calls 34 inches a better compromise between shorter and taller users.
Always check whether a listed height includes the top. The Forli cabinets above are 34.5 inches tall without a top. Add a 1 inch quartz top and you get 35.5 inches (our math), which matches the listed height of the assembled Forli 61 in. double. That puts this family in comfort-height range. A vessel sink adds bowl height above the counter, so pair it with a lower cabinet.
Bathroom vanity depth: standard and narrow options
Angi lists 21 inches as standard depth, with most vanities between 20 and 23 inches. Ultra-narrow models run 16 to 18 inches deep. The listings we checked fall in that range: the Forli cabinets are 21.5 inches deep, the 72 in. double is 22 inches, and the Bellaterra 16 in. is just over 16 inches. A shallower cabinet frees floor space, but the bowl gets smaller, so check the sink dimensions.
Clearances: how much space between double sinks and around the vanity
Two sets of numbers matter: a code minimum and a more comfortable NKBA recommendation. Supply House Times summarizes the National Kitchen and Bath Association guidelines like this:
- Sink centerline to side wall or tall object: 15 in by code, 20 in recommended by the NKBA.
- Between two sink centerlines: 30 in by code, 36 in recommended.
- Clear floor space in front of the sink: 21 in by code, 30 in recommended.
Bob Vila quotes the same 21 inch code minimum and 30 inch NKBA recommendation for space in front of a fixture. Local codes differ, so confirm with your inspector or plumber before you finalize a layout.
Single vs double vanity size: the room width test
Using those figures, here is our math for the wall length a double vanity needs. Code minimum: 15 + 30 + 15 = 60 inches. NKBA recommended: 20 + 36 + 20 = 76 inches. A 60 inch double on a 60 inch wall just meets the code numbers, and a 72 inch double on a 76 inch or wider wall gets close to the recommended spacing. Below about 60 inches of wall, one sink with more counter is usually more usable.
Floating vs freestanding vanities
A freestanding vanity sits on the floor on legs or a plinth. The Forli cabinets have legs with adjustable levelers, which helps on uneven tile. A floating (wall-mounted) vanity hangs on the wall, leaves the floor open for cleaning, and can be mounted at the height you want. The tradeoff: the wall needs solid backing for the cabinet and top, and the supply and drain lines show more underneath, so plan both before the drywall goes up.
Measuring for doors, drawers and plumbing
- Measure the wall at three heights and use the smallest number.
- Mark the supply and drain locations. Measure from the floor and from the nearest side wall. Compare them with the cabinet’s back opening and drawers, since full-depth drawers can collide with a drain.
- Check door and drawer swing. The bathroom door, toilet and shower door should clear an open drawer. The Forli 36 in. comes in left-door and right-door versions.
- Confirm what is included. Many listings are cabinet only.
Mirror and medicine cabinet sizing
Angi notes that a standard bathroom mirror is 24 by 36 inches but that sizes vary widely. A mirror a little narrower than the vanity, or one per sink on a double, is a simple starting point. Bellaterra Home sells wood frame mirrors in 24, 30, 36 and 48 inch widths to pair with matching vanities. For a recessed medicine cabinet, check the stud spacing and any plumbing or wiring in the wall first.

For two sinks on a single top, the Bellaterra 61 in. double sink quartz top ($950.00) is listed for a standard 60 in cabinet. Frequently asked questions
What is the standard bathroom vanity height?
Angi puts it at 30 to 36 inches. Older vanities are often 30 to 32 inches, while comfort height models run about 35 to 36 inches.
How deep is a standard bathroom vanity?
About 21 inches, with most between 20 and 23 inches according to Angi. Narrow models run 16 to 18 inches.
How much space should be between double sinks?
Code minimums cited by Supply House Times call for 30 inches between sink centerlines. The NKBA recommends 36 inches. Each sink centerline should also be at least 15 inches (code) or 20 inches (NKBA) from a side wall.
Is a 60 inch vanity big enough for two sinks?
By our math, yes, but just barely. Two sinks centered in each half of a 60 inch vanity sit 30 inches apart and 15 inches from each end. That meets the code minimums but falls short of the NKBA recommendations. A 72 inch vanity allows 36 inch spacing.
Single vs double vanity size: what is the smallest double vanity?
Doubles start at 48 inches, but if it sits between two walls, 48 inches cannot provide 30 inches between sink centerlines plus 15 inches to each wall (our math: that takes 60 inches). For two daily users, 60 inches is a practical minimum and 72 is more comfortable.
