Smoker saved! I knew the burner element on my smoker had failed, but a check of third-party resellers showed that I would have to spend up to $100 for a replacement. I had given up on it because of this.
On a whim, I checked the Masterbuilt web site and found that, for under $15, I could get a new element directly from the manufacturer! Hoorah! Smoker saved!

new heat element. Had my masterbuilt smoker since March 2017. In April 2020, the GFI started tripping after I plugged in the smoker. I pulled the heating element and read about it going out on these smokers after a few years. I tried to ask for the element to be covered under warranty since this is a common defect, but the warranty was declined. I was then able to order one in Sept because the element was not in stock. I was pleased with the new gasket and the element worked perfectly. I was able to get the smoker up and running without any issue.

Returned. I had a problem with my smoker tripping the breaker so I ordered the element, since I couldn’t get anyone in customer service . Did not fix the problem so I returned it.

Nonexistent Customer Phone support. I gave the part one star for every year the original one lasted.
We have only had the smoker for 3 years. It gets used a handful of times a year. Never used in the rain and it is stored in our garage. You would think the heating element would last longer than 3 years for something that may have only been used 10 times.
I have been in my house 11 years and had to replace my oven element once and my wife runs it at 500 when baking bread.
We were going to make pulled pork for our neighbor who just lost one of there family members but had to make other arrangements for their meal until I could get it fixed.
The price of the part was good and replacing it was not hard. I recommend searching YouTube since calling the support line is a joke.
I paid $11 for expedited Shipping but it still took 4 days to get here. GA to SC. That seems a bit long for expedited Shipping since regular mail takes less.
My suggestion if you need help go to the Facebook Group. There are lots of great people that are willing to help.

Fixed my “breaker-tripping” Smoker for $15. If your electric smoker won’t turn on and you’re like me and knew it was always kept under its cover and out of the elements... it’s safe to say the control panel isn’t the culprit. However, every time I plugged it in it would make a beeping sound and immediately trip the breaker. I tried multiple GFCIs just to be sure and it did the same thing every time. After some thorough research on YouTube I discovered that the heating elements and sometimes develop a short inside the coil itself. So when I found out that Masterbuilt sells a replacement heating element for only $15 it was a no-brainer. The kit came with everything you need to install it, including instructions. I replaced it in about 1hr on a weekend afternoon... plugged it in... and all is working again. Hopefully this review helps someone. If your smoker trips your GFCI the second you plug it in try replacing the heating element!

Working like new again. glad to have my 10 year old smoker working like new again
★★★★★ Kwaz August 22, 2020 · Moosup, CT
The connectors went bad on orig. After 4 years of use a several times a month, the push-on blade connections finally failed. The element kit came with new male and female connections and the splice needed. Well thought out by Mastercraft. More of a re-built/refurbishment kit than just the element. Good instructions.

Perfect. Part was correct and showed up earlier than expected. Installed in 10 minutes, with the help of YouTube, and works like a champ. Back in business.

Didn't Need. I can only blame myself for not verifying beforehand that my smoker not heating up, was only due to a melted spade connector to one terminal of the heating element. I just assumed it had to be the element, and didn't consider the possibility a spade connection to the element melting. And why should anyone ? It should have been designed to handle the sustained amperage initially anyway. The smoker has probably been used about 30X's total. It wouldn' have made it thru the embarassingly short 90 day warranty if used a normal amount. Even $ 100.00 smokers from Aldi's are warranted for an amazing 3 yrs. No confidence in your own products ?; guess not. Oh well....I now have an extra element, which will burn up eventually.

Poor design for this coil. Obviously this part has been designed incorrectly. When my smoker kept tripping the GFI i went to YouTube and there were a load of videos pointing out how the faulty coil causes this. Mine went after just two years and I don't use it that often. To add injury to insult, when I went to the Masterbuilt site to order a replacement, they didn't have any in stock - I wonder why?

800 watt element fits mb20070160 MES. This part will fit the MB smoker with the rivets in the back. Just drill out the rivets to expose the old heating element. I used longer sheet metal screws to attach the heating element to the metal box cover. Take note where the rubber gasket is located when you remove the old element. The rubber gasket goes INSIDE the smoker.

Easy swap out. It's great to have a product that we use so much that it has become necessary to change out a worn part. Last year I needed to change out the control box, easy peasy! Just a couple of weeks ago the heating element needed replacement, not quite as simple as the controls but completely do-able by a 77 year old retiree. We love Masterbilt!

Direct Replacement. This was an easy and direct replacement for my Sportsmans Elite smoker. The repair took about 30 minutes from disassembly through final installation. Plenty of smoke to develop a beautiful bark and ring. Inexpensive too!

★★★★★ Bhop July 27, 2020 · Fork Union Va
Poor design. This is my second smoker and my third part. My first smoker used twice had a burn element prior to being a replacement part. My second smoker has now required an element and a control box. Between the two units they have probably only been used a dozen times. The smokebox making contact with the burner element I believe is a poor design.

Exact replacement for the old element. Imagine my surprise when I went to load up my smoker with four full racks of carefully prepped, trimmed, and rubbed baby backs, just hours before company was coming over...only to find that all it did was trip the GFCI, over and over again. Not a happy day.
I save dinner by throwing a chip box into my grill and doing ti the old fashioned way, but its just not the same.
Thanks to the internet, I learned that this is a common occurrence with these Masterbuilt smokers. I pulled the element, checked the resistance, got 16.9 Ohms...seemed a little low, but you never know...
I ordered a replacement from Masterbuilt, it showed up a week later, I checked resistance, 18.1 Ohms...perfect...installed it...voila! Back in business.
My only "issue" is that the replacement element is literally the same as the one that failed, so whatever design faults are in there are still there, so this may happen again some day. But a replacement element and a little dirt under the nails is still cheaper than buying a new one.
★★★★★ Stosh July 26, 2020 · Ohio
Works. The heat element went out, ordered a new one installed it and it works fine. Installation was per instructions, but I would have much preferred if the original element would have lasted a little longer.

Back to smokin’. I’m pretty new to smoking meats so I bought a used smoker and sure enough the heating element went out within my first year. Now it’s back up and running! Only reason it’s a 4 and not a 5 is that I had to replace it in the first place. I’m not sure how long it was in use or if it was the original one, am I replacing this thing every year?... fingers crossed!

★★★★★ TigerFan July 24, 2020 · SW Florida
Time will tell. This is the 2nd replacement element I've had to purchase for my smoker. The original lasted over 2 years and had a lot of use; the 1st replacement only lasted for 7 smokes. Even though it is fairly easy to disassemble, replace the element, & reassemble the smoker, I was really annoyed at the short life span of the replacement element (I lost $30 worth of trout that was brined and unusable when I discovered my fairly new element was out again). This time, I purchased 2 elements to avoid wasting food if it happens again. I'm hoping to get a reasonable amount of use out of this element before it goes bad... only time will tell.

Replacement Burner. I should Not have had to replace the burner on my smoker as little as my unit has been used. It has always been kept clean, covered and out of the elements. However, the part was
very affordable, easy to install and shipping was really prompt.

Got what & needed & more. The kit came with easy to follow instruction. It even included new electrical connections for the heating element. That was greatly appreciated, because my old ones crumbled as I took them off. Put everything back together, and it works great!

Great Parts Service. A while back my smoker stopped heating. I had a good run with it an considered replacing it until I noticed on the website that there was a replacement part available at a reasonable price. I purchased the unit and made the swap and I am up and smoking once again. Thanks for keeping your customers supplied with the parts to keep your products running year after year.

Heat Element replacement. Masterbuilt sent the correct part to revive my electric smoker. It works again! Hopefully, the newer electric smokers have better elements that last longer.

800 W replacement element. I had a Cabela's branded electric smoker, and the heating element failed and would immediately trip the GFCI circuit - it was a 650 watt smoker but I purchased the 800 watt replacement from MasterBuilt as it was the same dimensions. So far it has worked great. I've used the smoker twice and it no longer trips the circuit

Renewed Smoker. My smoker kept tripping the GFI breaker when trying to use it. After a little research I determined that it was most likely the original heating element. I ordered a new element and by following the great instructions provided with it, I was able to replace it. This fixed my problem and at a reasonable cost.

Great Smoker. Element was easy enough to order and to change.
I wish I had ordered a spare though.
I really think there is too close of tolerance between the element and the wood box.
My element welded itself to the box and mine has been used very little.
I do love using the smoker

Was not sure what the problem was. My smoker acted like everything was okay, but after several resets of time and temp, I finally realized it was not actually heating up. I finally figured that the heating element must be the problem, so I ordered one, and gee, not it is working just fine.
