TV Stand Size Guide: What Size for a 65 Inch TV?

If you are wondering what size TV stand for 65 inch TV setups works best, the short answer is a stand at least 63 inches wide, and ideally 66 to 80 inches. A 65 inch screen (measured diagonally) is only about 56.7 inches wide, so the stand should run a few inches past each side of the TV. For height, aim for a stand that puts the middle of the screen close to seated eye level, which for most sofas means a top surface somewhere around 18 to 24 inches off the floor.

How wide should a TV stand be?

TV sizes are measured corner to corner, not side to side. For a standard 16:9 screen, the width is about 0.87 times the diagonal, and the screen height is about 0.49 times the diagonal. LG’s own TV size guide lists a 65 inch TV at roughly 57 inches wide and 32.5 inches tall, which matches the math once you add a thin bezel.

A stand should be wider than the TV for two practical reasons:

  • Stability. A screen that hangs over the edge is easier to bump, and kids or pets can catch a corner.
  • Proportion. A stand that is the same width as the TV, or narrower, tends to make the screen look top heavy.

Our rule of thumb: add at least 3 inches per side (6 inches total) to the screen width for a minimum, and 6 inches or more per side for a more balanced look. Going much wider is fine.

Check where the TV’s feet sit

Many newer TVs use two feet placed near the outer edges instead of one center pedestal. On a large TV, those feet can sit far apart, so a stand that looks wide enough on paper may not actually hold the feet. Before you buy, look up your TV’s spec sheet for “width with stand” and the foot spacing, then compare that to the stand’s top surface. For a center pedestal, check its footprint and depth.

What size TV stand for 65 inch TV models: real examples

Here are stands we carry that clear the 63 inch minimum for a 65 inch screen. Dimensions, weight limits and prices are taken from each product page at the time of writing.

Stand Width Height Listed TV or weight limit Price
Benzara Teny 70 Inch 69.84 in 17.91 in Not listed $426.55
Benzara Nitto 70 Inch 70 in 23 in Holds most 70 inch TVs $253.45
Benzara Maria 71 70.9 in 21.4 in Not listed $345.88
Benzara Donna 78 Inch 78 in 24.75 in TVs up to 80 in and 200 lb $510.65
Benzara Rutvy 78 Inch 78 in 22 in Not listed $590.53
Rove Concepts Noelle 79.35 in 22.3 in 330 lb max $1,959.00
Rove Concepts Augustus 86.6 in 18.7 in Not listed From $3,023.00

The Teny, Nitto and Maria are right around 70 inches, which gives a 65 inch screen about 6 to 7 inches of clearance per side. The Donna, Rutvy and Noelle add more breathing room and would also suit a 75 inch TV. The 86.6 inch Augustus can even take an 85 inch screen. Where a listing does not state a weight limit, check your TV’s weight against the maker’s guidance or call us before you order.

One borderline case: the Benzara Ayne 60 is listed as accommodating TVs up to 65 inches. At 60 inches wide, it leaves under 2 inches per side for a 65 inch screen, so it works best if your TV uses a center pedestal or narrow foot spacing. It is a more comfortable fit for a 55 inch TV.

TV stand height: where should the screen sit?

Width gets most of the attention, but height decides whether you watch comfortably. LG’s guide recommends having the middle of the screen at eye level or slightly below, and notes that most experts suggest the center of the TV at around one meter (about 39 inches) from the floor, adjusted for your seating.

To estimate the screen center on a stand, add three numbers: the stand height, the gap between the stand top and the bottom of the screen (often 2 to 4 inches on TVs with feet, check your model), and half the screen height. For a 65 inch TV, half the screen height is about 16 inches. So:

  • An 18.7 inch stand like the Augustus puts the center around 37 to 39 inches.
  • A 22.3 inch stand like the Noelle puts it around 40 to 42 inches.
  • A 24.75 inch stand like the Donna puts it around 43 to 45 inches.

Low, deep sofas favor the lower end; taller seats favor the higher end.

Sizing for a 55 inch or 75 inch TV

TV stand for 55 inch TV

A 55 inch screen is about 48 inches wide, so look for 54 inches or more. The Benzara Gavin 59 Inch (59.2 inches wide, 16.9 inches tall) is a low mid century option, and the Ayne 60 mentioned above fits well too. Any of the 70 inch stands also work if you want a longer look.

TV stand for 75 inch TV

A 75 inch screen is about 65.4 inches wide, so 72 inches is the practical minimum. The 78 inch Donna (rated for TVs up to 80 inches and 200 lb), the Rutvy 78, the Noelle and the Augustus all clear it. For an 85 inch screen, the Keely White High Gloss TV Stand is listed at 94 inches wide with a 100 lb weight limit, so confirm your TV’s weight first.

Frequently asked questions

What size TV stand do I need for a 65 inch TV?

A 65 inch TV is about 56.7 inches wide, so choose a stand at least 63 inches wide. Stands of 69 to 80 inches look more balanced, and the TV’s feet must fit on the top.

Can a TV be wider than the TV stand?

It can work if the TV’s feet or pedestal sit fully on the stand. An overhanging screen is easier to bump, so a wider stand is the safer choice.

What is a good TV stand height?

For most sofas, a stand between about 18 and 24 inches tall places the center of a 55 to 65 inch screen near seated eye level. LG suggests the screen center at around one meter (about 39 inches) from the floor, adjusted for your seat height.
