An electric fireplace TV stand is a media console with a plug-in fireplace insert built into the center. Choosing one comes down to three numbers: how wide the stand is compared with your TV, how much weight the top can carry, and what the insert needs electrically. On the stands we carry, widths run from 70 to 97 inches, the larger ones are listed for TVs up to 90, 95 or 100 inches, and most use a 42 inch insert listed to heat up to 400 square feet. Below is how to match one to your TV and room, plus the safety rules that come straight from the manuals.
Electric fireplace TV stand sizes we carry
All figures come from our product listings. “Not listed” means the listing does not say. None of our listings currently state a maximum TV weight or the insert wattage, which is why those columns are missing; call us before you order if you need either number.
| Stand | Width x depth x height (in) | Max TV size (listed) | Insert | Heated area (listed) | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bridgevine Home Vineyard 97 in | 97 x 18 x 32 | 100 in | 42 in, remote | 400 sq ft | $1,867.99 |
| Bridgevine Home Nantucket 97 in | 97 x 18 x 32 | 100 in | 42 in, remote | 400 sq ft | $1,819.99 |
| 97 in Farmhouse (black) | 97 x 18 x 32 | 100 in | 42 in, remote | 400 sq ft | $1,792.99 |
| Americana 86 in | 86 x 18 x 34 | 95 in | 42 in, remote | 400 sq ft | $1,745.99 |
| Graceland 86 in | 86 x 18 x 28 | 95 in | 42 in, remote | 400 sq ft | $1,619.99 |
| Sausalito 78 in | 78 x 16 x 33 | 90 in | 42 in, remote | 400 sq ft | $1,536.99 |
| Benzara Tony 70 in (gray walnut) | 70 x 16 x 33 | Not listed | Heater, 8 flame colors | Not listed | $897.99 |
| Benzara Ambi 70 in | 70 x 16 x 33 | Not listed | Heater, multiple flame colors | Not listed | $897.99 |
The 97, 86 and 78 inch stands are listed as built in Arizona (the Americana lists Vietnam as its origin) and arrive mostly assembled: you secure the fireplace insert with a few included screws. The Benzara 70 inch cabinets, which also come in a white walnut Tony version, are listed as assembly required and add LED shelf lighting. Freight shipping is free on orders of $999 or more and a flat $200 below that, so the Benzara stands ship for $200.
How to match stand width to TV size
TV sizes are measured diagonally, but what matters on a stand is the width of the screen. For a standard 16:9 TV, the width is about 87% of the diagonal. That is our own calculation from the 16:9 shape, not a manufacturer figure, and the frame adds a little more:
- 65 inch TV: about 57 inches wide
- 75 inch TV: about 65 inches wide
- 85 inch TV: about 74 inches wide
- 90 inch TV: about 78 inches wide
- 95 inch TV: about 83 inches wide
- 100 inch TV: about 87 inches wide
Most people like a stand that is at least as wide as the TV so the set does not overhang. By that math, the 97 inch stands leave about 5 inches per side under a 100 inch TV, the 86 inch stands leave a small margin under a 95 inch TV, and the 78 inch Sausalito sits right at the width of a 90 inch screen. Before you buy, measure your TV’s actual width and the spread of its feet or pedestal, since feet near the outer edges need a top that reaches them.
Fireplace TV stand for an 85 inch TV
An 85 inch TV is roughly 74 inches wide. Any of the 78, 86 or 97 inch stands above clear that width, and all three sizes are listed for TVs larger than 85 inches. The 70 inch Benzara cabinets are narrower than an 85 inch screen, and their listings do not give a maximum TV size, so we would not pair them with an 85 inch set without confirming with us first.
TV weight limits
Large TVs can be heavy, and the stand top spans the fireplace opening. None of our fireplace console listings publish a top load limit, so call 866-777-2590 (Mon to Fri, 9AM to 6PM PST) for the number before ordering, and compare it to the weight on your TV’s spec sheet with the stand attached. As a reference point for how these limits are stated, one 44 inch electric fireplace TV stand manual (not a model we sell) lists separate maximum loads for each surface, ranging from 20.1 to 93.3 lbs. Limits vary a lot by design, so never assume. That same manual includes a tipping restraint and strongly recommends using it, which is good practice with any tall TV on a console.
Heat output and power
Our 42 inch insert listings describe supplemental heat for rooms up to 400 square feet, a thermostat range of 64 to 82 degrees F, seven flame colors, and the option to run the flames with or without heat. That flame-only mode is what lets a fireplace media console work year round. Our listings do not state wattage. For comparison, the manual linked above lists a 750 W low and 1,500 W high setting and says to check the unit is plugged into a standard 120V outlet; confirm the figure for the specific insert you buy. For more on heat output and sizing, see our electric fireplace buying guide.
Are electric fireplace TV stands safe?
Used as the manufacturer instructs, they are designed for home use, but the insert is still a heater, and the manual is the rule book. The safety section of the manual we reviewed says to:
- Plug the heater directly into a wall outlet and never use an extension cord or power strip.
- Keep furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes and curtains at least 3 feet from the front and away from the sides and rear.
- Never block the air intake or exhaust, and do not run the cord under rugs.
- Take extreme caution with children nearby or when the heater is left running unattended, and unplug it when not in use.
- Connect only to a properly grounded outlet, and do not hang stockings or decorations on or near it.
In practice that means keeping cable boxes and game consoles out of the path of warm air, and not stacking items in front of the insert. Follow the manual that ships with your stand, since clearances differ by model. If your outlet is old, loose or shared with other heavy loads, have a licensed electrician check it first.
Fireplace TV stand or a wall-mounted fireplace?
An electric fireplace entertainment center is the simplest route: no framing, no hardwiring, and it moves with you. A recessed or wall-mounted unit gives a cleaner built-in look but involves more installation. If you are weighing the two, read built-in vs wall-mount electric fireplace, and if the TV will hang on the wall above a fireplace instead, see electric fireplace with a TV above.
Frequently asked questions
Are electric fireplace TV stands safe?
When used as directed, yes, with conditions. The manual we reviewed requires plugging directly into a grounded wall outlet with no extension cord or power strip, keeping combustibles at least 3 feet from the front, and never blocking the vents. Read and follow the manual for your model.
What size fireplace TV stand do I need for an 85 inch TV?
An 85 inch 16:9 TV is about 74 inches wide by our calculation, so a 78 inch or wider stand is a sensible minimum. Our 78, 86 and 97 inch stands are all listed for TVs larger than 85 inches.
Can I use the fireplace without heat?
The 42 inch insert listings on our 78, 86 and 97 inch stands say the flames can run with or without heat. The Benzara listings do not mention a flame-only mode, so call to confirm.
Does a fireplace media console need special wiring?
The manual we reviewed calls for a standard 120V grounded outlet and no extension cords. If you are unsure whether your circuit can handle a heater, ask a licensed electrician.
Can I return a fireplace TV stand?
Returns follow our return and refund policy. Read it, or call 866-777-2590 with questions, before you order.
