Kamado Joe Half-Moon Cast Iron Grate – Classic Joe

Working as expected. Happy with this product over all i wish there was a better storage solution then putting them under the grill layered with half a dozen other accessories.

Most used accessory. Because the cast iron grill accepts high heat and is reversible, it's great for the final steak searing. Used in the lower level of the two tier system, a steak and also be set on its edge, fat-side-down, leaning against a normal grate in the upper portion allowing the fat to render and flame up over the entire piece of meat for a nice "caveman" style sear.

Great for grilling meats and veggies. I've been on a kick lately grilling fresh corn and burgers. The cast iron grate works well - grabs the heat, sears well, and is easy to clean (better than the stainless grates). I highly recommend it,

Best Grill Grates in the Game!! When i ordered my Joe i knew i wanted cast iron grates, ordered these immediately. I've used 2 of these grates for 8 years and you would think i just received them today. They clean easily, have never had any food stick to them and i wouldn't grill without them.

Great for searing. Happened to be going by an ACE Hardware store that was cleaning out inventory and picked up this iron grate. Much more heavy duty than the factory grates. Used it this past weekend to cook shrimp (on skewers) and turned out amazing. Good to have as a backup grate or for searing steak.

Lacking Customer Service. The Kamado Joe products are very good as far as I’ve used them, but the customer service is very lacking. Sending them a message and waiting 24-48 hours (maybe) for them to get back with you is more customer harassment than customer service especially at the prices they charge. I try to stay away from the items like the connected Joe that have electronic parts and might be more susceptible to needing service.

Extremely Brittle - Broke moving around. I used this once and moved it late to add charcoal it broken when I placed it on the other grate. Extremely brittle. Would not buy again.

Cast Iron Grates. So I have been grilling on cast iron grates for a very long time. The only thing the KJ Classic 3 didn't come out of the box with was cast iron grates my opinion. I ordered one to start but immediately had to have two. I ordered the second. Now I have four grates multiple set up capabilities and a sear is best on cast. Thanks KJ I love them.

Great Half-Moon cast. Gets the char marks on the meat perfectly. Allows you to split the grill inside to fit the food that is being cooked. An adaptable appliance.

A Must Have Item. This is a must-have item. Cast iron cooking grates are a huge upgrade over the stainless steel ones. For a grill at this price point, this part really ought to be included. But oh well, it’s not expensive anyway so it’s a no-brainer to buy it and use it. The fact that it comes in two parts is a huge plus, as it allows you the ability to add more charcoal while cooking. One minor, minor issue: this cast iron grate rests stably on the divide-and-conquer rack, but it is turned about 20 degrees or so relative to the rack, so if the rack is positioned straight in the grill, the midline of this grate will be angled about 20 degrees from where you’d want it to be . This is because of the nunber and spacing of the grates. Exceedingly minor issue with an easy fix: just turn the rack to position the greet where you want it.

Gotta have cast iron. Love cooking on cast iron! It’s a must have for the Kamado Joe.

Nice but not needed. From a purely functional point of view it is no better or worse than the stainless steel grate that comes standard with the kamado. From a presentation point of view it makes great sear lines in your meat. If you get a chance to buy it on sale then go for it, otherwise maybe put your money towards a different accessory.

For those perfect sear marks. The stainless steel grate that comes with the Kamado Joe is pretty good, but the one area where it lacks is in the ability to get hot enough (with enough heat retention) to give those sexy grill marks on your steaks or other meats. The solution is the cast iron grill grate. I have used this a few times with the D&C set up, and do a reverse sear that is the perfect finishing touch to your grilled meats.
