Kamado Joe KJ-KT – Kontrol Tower® Top Vent

Great New Vent Cap Design. Nice design. Easy install. You’ll need new tape. I had to use two layers for snug fit. It would probably stay put with one but didn’t want to take a chance.

World Class Customer Service, World's Best Grill. The original Kontrol Tower Swing bolt broke. I phoned in and ordered a new one. I paid for it. A customer service person phoned me back a day or two later and told me that it was covered under warranty and that they would refund the amount I paid. As you know the Kontrol Tower Top is a primary function control on the Kamado Joe. I got it with in 4 days and back in business. I also had a numb break on one of the attachable shelves. They sent me 2 new ones. I only had one break. I am 61 and BBQ King for 40 years with every type of grill, before Kamado Joe went through Webber's like recycled aluminium cans. THE BEST GRILL IN THE WORLD. I have the 24" Big Joe Red Ceramic Grill. Component parts, Functionality of the grill, and now WORLD CLASS customer Service, add up to the BEST piece of Equipment I have ever owned.

Doesn't fit. This simply sits atop the smoker. There is no seal and nothing attaching it to the vent opening. This would allow air I did not want to get in and also would fall any time I opened the lid. My reason for purchasing was that the original vent was sealed shut due to smoke and soot. I resorted to cleaning with "pipe" cleaning solution.

Broken in less than 10 uses! I have used close to 10 times. After making babyback ribs, the vent was caked with grease & the handle is stuck. I tried & tried to move it but the handle broke off.

Paint peeling and very sticky. The idea and design of this product is really cool, but it is probably the worst part of an otherwise amazing grill. The paint peeled off the inside and ended up ruining a cook and the unit is now very sticky and hard to open/close, making it almost useless.

Paint peeling issue. The paint is peeling off. Makes me uncomfortable that it could possibly be falling into my food. Not sure why this part isnt left unpainted or stainless steel. Would not recommend.

Terrible peoduct. I bought the Kamaod Joe classic a few Mo ths ago the Kontrol tower sucks it gets stuck they say it is dishwasher safe I places in dishwasher the greece did not budge the tower stayed stuck I baked thee tower in an oven it finally loosened up only to get stuck again this Kontrol tower rendered the Kamado Joe a nightmare to use

Kontrol Tower Top Vent. I received my Kontrol Tower Top very eager to start a more precise grilling temperature. Regretfully when I placed it on my Joe Classic it was very loose. As I opened the dome it fell to the ground. I contacted Kamado Joe the morning. This is their response: Thank you for contacting customer service. I am sorry to hear this has happened. You are needing more vent gasket to make a tighter fit with the kontrol tower. It can be purchased on our website and the part number you are needing is KJ-GA23. This might have good to know up front Kamado Joe at extra 20.00.

Kontrol Tower Top Vent Fail - fell off. I have purchased / used this cap on my 6 month old 'Classic II' - 18" 4 times, on Low & Slow cooks; with last cook being a DoJoe @550F. Complete Top Vent fell OFF when lifting the lid to install the KJ DoJoe as per KJ Instruction sheet. The original KJ black felt type gasket is undamaged... this is just poor QA on KJ's process.

Horrible Design. I grilled and smoked with this top about 8 times. Like others, paint began to bubble and chip off onto the food so I had to go back to the original vent that came with my Big Joe 1.

Horrible product!! This top fell off TWICE! It does not securely fit to grill top. It fell and shattered on ground into 3 pieces not once but TWICE!! One time when just opening grill, other when trying to open vent! Fix securely to the grill. So frustrated

Sad product. I made a huge mistake as a newbie KJ owner based on a recommendation I read online. My Kontrol Tower was all gunned up, so I took it off and put inside the grill for a high heat ‘clean’ and it came out totally warped. Lesson learned. So, I ordered a fresh one from KJ... After only 3 cooks, started flaking and sticking. It works as a vent, but why does it have to lose paint flakes and look so shabby? You can do better, KJ.

Poor design and quality. I'm now on my 3rd warranty replacement for this. On every single one, after a couple cooks, the powder coating flakes off onto my food inside the Joe. Very poor quality and I'm surprised they haven't changed the design yet.

New top vent. Exact fit for the Kamadojoe dome. Only disappointment is that it scratches easily. Much better in temperature control than the original vent.

Kontrol Tower Top Vent Paint Peel. I bought the big joe lll in May 2020. I love my BJ3 but the Kontrol tower vent is a let down. I cooked less than 5 times and the tower vent's inside coating is peeling/cracking. I'm not sure how to handle this issue for my next cook.

Terrible Finish. I've done only about 6 cooks using this item and the paint is coming off on the inside and out. I e-mailed customer support and was told that this was "normal." I don't see how this can possibly be normal when I have paint falling into my food. This sounds like a poor design or a defect in workmanship. Functionality is very good, but that doesn't compensate for the paint in my food.

Very Poor - Certainly not the "icing on top". I bought my KJ in May 2019. I noticed the coating on the Control Tower starting to flake after a half-dozen uses. After using my KJ several more times in the summer of 2020, it is flaking more and the part that is supposed to move to control the airflow is barely moveable. When you do try and open the vent or close the vent, the entire top shifts or rotates around the opening. Everything else about the KJ is great.

Poor quality. I put the control top on a new grill right out of the box. It fits so loose that it almost falls off when you open the grill.

Poor Paint Quality. read the reviews of this and bought the grill. the control top is totally flaking off onto the grill within the first 20 cooks. i have taken care of the top because i knew it might be an issue based on the reviews. stored in garage no rain covered after use once the grill was cool and still, the paint flaked. should be powdercoated or at least a much better high heat paint could be used to avoid flakes of paint dropping onto the food.

Paint blisters and peels. I love my kamado.the best bbq I have ever had.except for the kontrol tower. Have been through 2 in 2 years because of paint issues .

Paint peeling. Paint flakes on food. Poor design. After cooking ribs a few times the paint on the tower melted and peeled off. Some black flakes landed on the food !!!! This is by far the worst design from Kamado Joe. The powder coating does NOT hold up to heat. This vent desperately needs a new design.

Poor Design. The vent adjustment was sticking after 3 uses and the powder coat was peeling off, for the price of this grill/smoker I was expecting a better product quality.

Can be difficult to use. Easy to slide for the first uses. It can get stick after several uses. Once the grill warms up, it becomes easier to use again.

Works well hard to keep clean. The Kontrol Tower works very well for maintaining temps. No issues with it moving when the dome is raised. The issues with it are the powder coat doesn't hold up well, it obviously gets dirty and is hard to clean and keep clean. Outside of that it's great!
