The Berlin and the Belia are two of Rove Concepts’ most popular modular sofas, and they look nothing alike. The Berlin is clean, low and channel tufted. The Belia is a plush, button tufted piece based on a design from 1970. Both use the same kiln-dried hardwood frame construction, so the choice comes down to feel, how you use the sofa and how much you want to reconfigure it later. Here is how they compare, using Rove’s published specs for each line.

Comfort: sink-in soft vs supportive medium
This is the biggest difference. The Berlin uses three layers of high-density foam topped with goose down, which Rove rates as a soft feel. Expect a relaxed, sink-in seat that is great for lounging and movie nights, with some fluffing to keep the down cushions looking full.
The Belia uses three layers of high-density foam without the down topper, rated medium feel, with a backrest angled at 10 degrees. Its deep 26.7 inch seat and low 15.7 inch seat height make it a floor-lounge style sofa: great for curling up, less ideal for anyone who needs a higher seat to get up easily.
Style: which room suits which sofa
- Choose the Berlin for modern, minimal or mid-century rooms where you want a crisp silhouette. The channel tufting and steel legs keep it tailored.
- Choose the Belia if you want the sofa to be the statement piece. Rove describes it as a reproduction of a 1970 Italian design, and its marshmallow-like curves read as sculptural in a large, open room.
Modular flexibility
Both lines can be bought as preset configurations or as individual pieces to build your own layout. The practical difference is how the pieces hold together.
- Berlin pieces join with connectors that Rove includes, so a custom layout stays tight when people sit down and get up. Pieces include the corner, armless and ottoman, and the line extends to a sleeper sofa and even a bed.
- Belia pieces have no connectors, so they sit side by side and can drift apart on hard floors. A rug with a good pad under the whole sofa helps. Individual pieces include the armless section, and the open end sofa comes in left or right hand facing versions.
Size and layout
Both lines are 39.4 inches deep, so plan the same walkway clearance in front of either one. Popular configurations:
- Berlin: the Berlin Sofa is 94.6 inches wide. Larger options include the Berlin Sectional, the Berlin L-Sectional and the Berlin Modular Sectional.
- Belia: the Belia Open End Sofa is 118.2 inches wide in three pieces. Larger options include the Belia Sectional and the Belia Modular Sectional.
Tape the footprint on your floor before ordering, and measure every doorway, hallway and stair turn on the delivery path. Modular pieces help here, since each section moves through the house on its own.
Fabrics
Both share most of Rove’s fabric families, including Plush Velvet, Plush Weave, Chatou Boucle, Performance Linen, Performance Weave, Modern Tweed, Shearling and Microfiber Leather. The Berlin adds Corduroy Velvet and Vintage Velvet options. For homes with kids or pets, the performance fabrics are the practical pick. For a softer, more textured look, boucle and velvet photograph beautifully but need more care. You can request swatches before ordering.
Which should you buy?
- Buy the Berlin if you want the softest seat, a tailored modern look, secure connectors and the most configurations, including sleeper and bed options.
- Buy the Belia if you want a statement design with a low, deep lounge seat and you are happy with a medium, supportive feel.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Berlin or Belia more comfortable?
It depends on what you like. The Berlin’s down topper gives a softer, sink-in seat. The Belia is firmer and deeper, and sits lower to the floor.
Can I mix Berlin and Belia pieces?
No. The lines have different heights, cushion styles and connection systems. Build each layout from one collection.
