The right vanity table is the one that fits your wall, sits at a comfortable height with its stool, and puts light on your face instead of behind it. Start with three measurements: the wall width you can give up, the depth you can spare before the walkway, and where the nearest outlet sits. Across the bedroom makeup vanity sets we carry, tables run from 42 to 75 inches wide and 16 to 20 inches deep, and the tabletops on the sets that list them sit about 30 inches off the floor. Below: sizing, mirrors, lighting, storage, and nine real sets compared.
Vanity table sizes: width, depth and height
Width
Width decides how much you can spread out. Compact sets like the Benzara 2 Piece Metal Vanity Set are 42 inches wide, enough for a mirror and a tray of daily products. Mid size sets such as the Benzara Texo are about 47 inches. Full dressing table sets reach 60 inches (Jexo, Moe, Vaz) and 75 inches (Miamy). Leave a few inches on each side so the piece does not look jammed between a window and a door.
Depth
A deeper top gives more room in front of the mirror but pushes the stool further into the room. In a narrow bedroom, an 18 inch deep table like the Texo or Margo leaves more walkway than a 20 inch one.
Table height and stool height
Where listings give the tabletop height separately, it lands at about 30 inches: 30 inches on the Moe, 30.25 inches on the Vaz and Margo. The included stools sit between 17 and 20.75 inches high, which leaves a gap of roughly 9 to 13 inches between the seat and the tabletop. That gap is your knee and thigh room. Using your own chair? Compare its seat height with the table height, and check that drawers under the top clear your knees. Cornell University’s ergonomics guide on seated posture describes a comfortable sitting position as one where the feet rest firmly on the floor, which is a good test for any stool and table pairing.
Room clearance
Add the table depth, the stool depth (about 13 to 19.5 inches on the stools that list it) and the space you need to slide the stool out and stand up. Tape that footprint on the floor and check that doors still open fully. Tall attached mirrors, like the Miamy at 73.5 inches overall, also need clear wall space above.
Vanity table with mirror: which mirror type fits your routine
- Fixed single mirror. The simplest option, as on the Vaz and Margo.
- Tri-fold mirror. Side panels let you see the sides of your face and hair. The Benzara Commodious has a 3 panel mirror with movable extensions, and the Miamy pairs a tri-fold mirror with LED lighting.
- Flip-up or lay-flat mirror. The mirror folds down, so the table doubles as a desk. The Benzara Cherub has a mirror that opens up to center storage.
- Adjustable frame mirror. The metal 2 piece set has an adjustable portrait mirror you can angle.
For a full length outfit check, add a standing mirror. Our floor mirror size guide covers sizes and placement.
Vanity table with lights: LED trim vs Hollywood bulbs
Lighted mirrors come in two main styles. LED trim runs a strip of light around or inside the mirror frame, like the arched LED trim on the Texo or the built in LED lighting on the Benzara Moe. Hollywood style mirrors use a row of exposed bulbs around the frame, like the Benzara Vaz and the Benzara Margo.
- Plan for an outlet. Lighted mirrors need power, so keep the cord out of walkways. If you need a new outlet, a licensed electrician and your local code have the final word.
- Built in charging. The Margo lists integrated USB and power outlets, and the Miamy lists an electrical port with USB A and USB C.
- Ask about specs that are not listed. Our listings do not state color temperature, brightness or dimming for these mirrors. Call us before ordering if those matter to you. For a primer on color temperature and CRI for mirror lighting, see our bathroom vanity light guide.
Storage, materials and style
Drawer counts vary a lot. The Jexo has 3 drawers, the Commodious 5, the Moe 6 plus a cabinet and an open shelf, the Texo and Margo 9, and the Vaz 11. The Miamy has 6 drawers with ball bearing glides and a felt lined top drawer for jewelry. Hair tools fit better in a deep drawer or cabinet than in many shallow ones.
For tops, tempered glass (8mm on the Vaz, Jexo and Moe) wipes clean and protects the finish underneath from spills. Wood and veneer tops look warmer but mark more easily. Metal frames, like the chrome 2 piece set, are lighter, at 56 pounds versus 136 to 278 pounds for the large wood sets. Every set here requires assembly.
Style runs from glam (mirrored drawer fronts and crystal like knobs on the Vaz, Texo and Margo) to traditional (the Miamy’s ash burl veneer and ornate silver accents). Frequently asked questions
What size makeup vanity table do I need?
For a daily routine, 42 to 48 inches wide usually works. Go 60 inches or wider for dresser style storage. Keep depth to 18 inches in a tight room.
How tall should a vanity table be?
The sets in our range that list tabletop height sit at 30 to 30.25 inches, with included stools 17 to 20.75 inches high. Make sure your knees clear the drawers.
Is a vanity table with mirror better than a separate mirror?
An attached mirror keeps the setup matched; a separate one lets you choose size freely. A lay-flat mirror like the Cherub’s gives you both a vanity and a desk.
Do vanity tables with lights need to be plugged in?
Yes, lighted mirrors need power, so place the set near an outlet. If you need a new outlet installed, hire a licensed electrician.
