100 Bottle Wine Rack: Layouts That Really Hold 100

If you own about 100 bottles, or expect to soon, you do not need a custom cellar. A 100 bottle wine rack can be three wall racks, one freestanding bin, or a single tower, and the right choice depends on how much wall you can give up and whether you want to see every label. Below are eight real configurations from our listings, with bottle count, footprint and price for each.

How much wall space for 100 bottles?

It depends on depth. VintageView W Series racks are 13 inches wide and hold 3 bottles per foot of height for each bottle of depth. Our math for about 100 bottles:

  • Single deep (every label visible): about 65 in wide by 84 in tall, roughly 38 square feet of wall.
  • Double deep: about 39 in wide by 72 in tall, roughly 19.5 square feet.
  • Triple deep: about 39 in wide by 48 in tall, roughly 13 square feet.

If you want to run the formula for your own wall, our guide to how many bottles fit on a wine wall walks through it. For how far each depth sticks out from the wall and where each one makes sense, see wine rack depth for 1, 2 and 3 deep racks.

100 bottle wall wine rack options

Label forward: five columns, seven feet tall

If showing every bottle is the point, stack a W Series Wine Rack 4 (12 bottles single deep) on a W Series Wine Rack 3 (9 bottles) and repeat five times. That gives 105 bottles on 7 feet of racking, which suits an 8 foot ceiling with room at the floor. It costs the most per bottle of the W Series options, but every label shows.

Narrow wall: three columns, double deep

Pair a W Series 4 double deep (24 bottles) with a W Series Wine Rack 2 double deep (12 bottles) in each of three columns. You get 108 bottles in a strip about 39 inches wide and 6 feet tall, with one label showing per row.

Smallest footprint: three racks, triple deep

Three W Series 4 racks at triple deep hold 36 bottles each, so 108 in a 39 by 48 inch area. It is the lowest cost per bottle of the VintageView options, but the racks stand 12 inches off the wall and you only see the front bottle in each row.

One kit: Evolution Wine Wall 75 3C

The Evolution Wine Wall 75 3C ships as two racks that align into a 75 by 41 inch panel. Double deep holds 90 bottles; triple deep holds 135 for $1,118 and stands 12.125 inches off the wall. Bottles rest on steel rods, a more industrial look than the W Series. Our Evolution wine wall review covers the system in more detail.

The peg route is the priciest per bottle. Eleven Vino Rails Flex 45 strips hold 99 bottles cork forward, at 9 per 45 inch strip. Total width depends on how far apart you space the strips, so send us your wall size before you order.

Whichever wall setup you pick, 100 full bottles add up to a few hundred pounds (see how much a wine bottle weighs). Read studs vs drywall anchors before you drill.

Floor standing 100 bottle wine rack options

If you rent or have tile or stone walls, freestanding units get you to 100 with little drilling. Our freestanding wine rack guide compares the families; here is how each hits roughly 100 bottles.

  • Case and Crate Bin 3 Kit with one extension: 96 bottles in a unit 42.5 inches tall and 28.75 inches wide.
  • Case and Crate Bin 6 Kit: 96 bottles in a single tall column only 15 inches wide.
  • Evolution Wine Tower 72 3C: 126 bottles label forward on clear acrylic panels, about a foot deep. The listing says it comes with wall mounting support brackets. If 126 is more than you need, the Wine Tower 47 3C base kit holds 81 bottles for $1,416; call to confirm its width.

Price check: when buying direct is cheaper

We checked every VintageView configuration above against vintageview.com, and the rack prices are the same on both sites. The difference is shipping. When we checked VintageView’s own cart, single racks showed about $9 to $13.50 in shipping, while we charge a flat $200 on orders under $999. That means these setups cost less delivered from VintageView directly:

  • The triple deep W Series wall ($504 from us, $704 with our shipping).
  • The double deep W Series wall ($756, or $956 with our shipping).
  • The Evolution Wine Wall 75 3C double deep ($832) and the Bin 3 Kit with extension ($835).
  • The Bin 6 Kit ($984), which sits $15 under our free shipping line.

At $999 and up our freight shipping is free. On a larger cart we checked, VintageView quoted $121.50 in shipping on a $1,215 order, so for the label forward wall, the triple deep Evolution kit or the tower, compare the delivered total on both sites before you buy. Wine rack for 100 bottles on a tight budget

If metal racks are more than you want to spend, the Benzara 6 tier modular wine rack holds 72 bottles in a wood frame listed at 45 L x 11 W x 31.5 H inches, for $244.26. Two side by side hold 144 bottles for $488.52 (our math). Benzara sells it direct for the same $244.26, so on a single unit check Benzara’s delivered price, which may come out lower once our $200 shipping applies.

None of these racks cool your wine. If your bottles will sit somewhere warm, read wine rack vs wine fridge first. For everything else in this category, start at our wine rack and cellar storage guide or browse all VintageView racks.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest way to store 100 bottles on a wall?

Of the VintageView options, three W Series 4 racks at triple deep (108 bottles, $504) have the lowest cost per bottle. Because that order is under $999, it is likely cheaper delivered from VintageView directly.

Is a wine rack for 100 bottles too big for an apartment?

Not necessarily. A triple deep wall needs about 39 by 48 inches, and the Case and Crate Bin 6 Kit takes a floor spot only 15 inches wide.

Can a floor standing 100 bottle wine rack hold magnums?

The Bin 6 Kit listing says each column holds 96 standard bottles or 48 bottles of 1.5L, and the Evolution towers list capacity for 750ml and 1.5L bottles. For a mixed collection, check each listing or call us.
