A double egg chair is a hanging egg or teardrop chair sized and rated for two people, usually sold with its own stand. The useful questions are simple: how wide is the seat, what weight is it rated for, does it come with a stand, and how will the cushions handle weather? This guide answers them with the published specs of the egg chairs we sell, and says where those specs are missing.
Our range is small: three two-person LeisureMod egg swings, one Benzara double swing, and a larger group of single hanging chairs.
Double egg chair options we carry, compared
Prices are our listed prices at the time of writing. Capacities and dimensions come from our listings or, where ours are blank, from the manufacturer’s own spec page.
| Chair | Price | Rated for | Overall size (W x D x H) | Stand |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LeisureMod Wicker Double Seater Egg Swing | $508 to $635 | 2 people, 530 lbs | 53 x 27 x 78 in. | Included (metal) |
| LeisureMod Recluse Egg Swing | $379 | 2 people, 440 lbs | 52.36 x 29.53 x 77.95 in. | Included (stainless steel) |
| LeisureMod Mendoza 2-Person Egg Swing | $544 | 2 people (no weight listed) | Not listed | Not stated |
| Benzara Diz Double Swing Sofa Chair | $576.16 | 450 lbs | 65.5 x 57 x 74.75 in. | Steel frame, two hanging points |
| LeisureMod Wicker Single Egg Swing (for comparison) | $456 | 1 person, 330 lbs | 41 x 41 x 77.17 in. | Included (iron) |
Two of those rows need a caveat. LeisureMod’s spec sheet for the Double Seater lists an overall width of 53 inches, while the feature list on the same page says 57 inches wide, so plan for the larger number. And the Mendoza listing gives us only the basics: an iron frame, removable cushions, four frame colors and fifteen cushion colors. We could not find a current Mendoza spec page on LeisureMod’s site, so call us for its measurements before you order.
What makes an egg chair for 2 a true double
Seat width, not overall width
Overall width includes the stand and shell; seat width is where you sit. LeisureMod lists a 42 inch seat width for the Double Seater (inside a 47 inch arm width) and 47 inches for the Recluse. The single egg swing measures 41 inches across overall, stand included. If a “double” chair’s overall width is close to a single’s, it is a cozy chair for one adult and a child, not two adults.
Weight capacity
The rating covers everyone in the chair at once. Across our listings the pattern is clear: the two-person LeisureMod swings are rated at 440 and 530 lbs, the LeisureMod single at 330 lbs, and the Benzara folding single egg chairs such as the Cery Egg Swing Chair with Foldable Stand ($542.46) at 220 lbs. Add up who will sit together, leave a margin, and get a rating in writing for any chair that lacks one.
The cushion
A true double ships with a cushion shaped for two. LeisureMod sells its 2-person egg swing cushion ($101) separately, and LeisureMod’s product page says the Recluse comes with that same ES57 cushion. Cushions usually wear out before frames, so a replacement option matters.
Stand vs ceiling mount
The LeisureMod Double Seater and Recluse both come with a stand (ask us to confirm the Mendoza’s). LeisureMod says the Recluse stand is rust-resistant stainless steel with 1.5 inch tubing and a 24.5 inch galvanized chain and spring, and the Double Seater uses double chain hooks and 3 mm steel springs and chains. A stand lets you move the chair and skip drilling into a ceiling, at the cost of footprint and height. Our stands run about 42 to 45 inches square at the base and 75.5 to 80 inches tall, and the Diz frame needs a 65.5 by 57 inch footprint.
Hanging-only chairs, such as the Benzara Keline Hanging Swing Lounge Chair ($672.05, single, rated to 300 lbs), come with chains and carabiners but no stand. Benzara’s listings for these chairs say they require professional installation. Several also give clearances: hang the seat no more than 20 inches above the ground, keep 4.5 feet from walls, and leave 30 inches from other obstacles.
None of our hanging-only listings publish a ceiling load rating, and we will not guess at joist numbers. The ceiling has to hold the chair, everyone in it, and the extra force of swinging, so have a contractor find a joist or beam and confirm it can take the load. Never hang a swing from drywall alone. If you want a single chair hung but have no suitable ceiling, a separate 80 inch Benzara hanging chair stand ($320.22) is an option. Its listing does not state a weight rating, though, so ask us to confirm it suits your chair before pairing them.
Weather, cushions and covers
The frames are built for outdoor use. LeisureMod describes the Double Seater as an iron frame with UV-resistant wicker wrap, and the Recluse as a polyethylene open weave over steel. The cushions are a different story. LeisureMod calls them weather resistant and quick drying, not waterproof. Its own care note says to wipe clean with a soft damp cloth and to cover or store outdoor products indoors during harsh weather.
- Bring cushions in before heavy rain and over winter, and let them dry fully before zipping covers back on.
- Wash covers as directed. LeisureMod says the Recluse cushion cover is removable and machine washable, and the Double Seater and single covers are zippered and removable.
- Size a cover to the whole unit. A chair cover has to go over the stand, so measure overall height, width and depth, not just the basket. We do not currently list egg chair covers. LeisureMod sells a single egg swing chair cover on its own site, so check its size against your chair.
- Check fittings each season. Look at chains, springs and carabiners for rust or wear, and tighten stand bolts.
Egg chair vs hammock
| Factor | Double egg chair | Hammock on a stand |
|---|---|---|
| Footprint | About 42 to 57 in. stand base on our listings | The Benzara Joena hammock stand ($231) is 130 in. wide |
| Position | Upright or curled seat, easy to get in and out | Lying down, better for naps |
| Two people | Side by side, facing out | Possible, but you roll toward each other |
| Cushions | Included, need weather care | Usually fabric or rope, fewer parts to store |
| Best fit | Balconies, porches, reading corners | Larger yards and decks |
If your space is tight, an egg chair wins on footprint. For more ways to plan seating in a smaller room, see our guide to curved sectionals for small spaces.
