HPC Fire Review: Burners, Kits and Fire Bowls

This HPC Fire review is a spec-based buyer guide, not a hands-on test. We have not burned these products ourselves; everything below comes from our product listings and documents published by HPC Fire. The short answer: HPC Fire (Hearth Products Controls Co., Miamisburg, Ohio) builds gas fire pit burners, drop-in kits, fire bowls, torches and accessories around 304 stainless steel burners, CSA certified ignition systems and a choice of match lit, push button or electronic ignition. It is the largest fire brand in our catalog, so the real job is decoding the product codes.

HPC Fire review: what the brand makes

Most HPC listings come in natural gas and propane versions at the same price, so the line is smaller than it looks:

  • Bare burners. Stainless steel Torpedo H-burners from 18 x 6 in to 84 x 10 in.
  • Hardscape block kits. Burner, pan, ignition and flex form collars bundled for a block enclosure, sold as FPPK or MLFPK.
  • Electronic ignition burner kits. Round and square flat pans with On/Off or Hi/Lo control.
  • Fire bowls. Spun aluminum and hammered or smooth copper bowls, many with a Torpedo option.
  • Gas torches. The TK series, as a full kit or head only.
  • Accessories. Wind guards, burner covers, shutoff timers and parts.

HPC fire burner options: standard vs Torpedo

Torpedo is HPC’s name for burners with nozzle style ports, which the listings say give taller, bonfire-like flames. HPC’s H-Burners sizing drawing (revision 3/30/2026) states that all its burners are 304 stainless steel and gives a higher recommended BTU for the Torpedo version of each size:

H-burner size Standard H-burner Torpedo H-burner
18 x 6 in 60,000 BTU 125,000 BTU
24 x 6 in 90,000 BTU 150,000 BTU
36 x 8 in 150,000 BTU 200,000 BTU
48 x 10 in 150,000 BTU 250,000 BTU
60 to 84 x 10 in 250,000 to 300,000 BTU 300,000 BTU

Source: HPC Fire H-Burners drawing (PDF). The same drawing lists the residential supply pressure it expects (natural gas 3.5 to 7.0 in W.C., propane 8 to 11 in W.C.) and says the burners are for fixed piping systems only. The bare Torpedo H-burner, 24 x 6 in, natural gas ($197.60) is listed as CSA certified 304 stainless with a raised hub to keep water out of the gas line, plus HPC’s Limited Lifetime Warranty. For matching burner size to your pit, see our fire pit burner size guide.

HPC fire pit kit codes: FPPK vs MLFPK

Our listings do not spell out the letters, but they are consistent about what each code includes:

  • MLFPK kits use a CSA certified match lit system: a key valve and key. You light it with a long-stem lighter while opening the valve. Fewest parts, no power needed.
  • FPPK kits use a CSA certified push button spark ignition with flame sensing. If the flame goes out, it shuts off the gas. It is battery operated, so it suits sites with no power.

One limit to know: HPC’s own FAQ (hpcfire.com, frequently asked questions page) says the valve used in the FPPK series is only rated for 140,000 BTU and does not recommend larger burners on it. Some of our FPPK listings quote higher figures, so treat 140,000 BTU as the ceiling until HPC confirms otherwise.

Example listings, natural gas versions:

Round flat kits run 8 to 36 in, square flat 18 to 36 in. Blocks are sold separately.

Linear Interlink kits

For long rectangular builds, the Linear Interlink FPPK Torpedo Hardscape Block Kit, 37 x 8 in ($2,591.60) pairs an 8 in wide Interlink pan with push button flame sensing ignition. MLFPK versions run 37 and 49 in, FPPK versions 37, 49 and 73 in. Trough vs Interlink and vent rules are covered in our linear fire pit burner guide.

HPC electronic ignition kits

If you have power at the pit, HPC’s electronic kits add automation. The Round Flat On/Off kit uses hot surface ignition that relights the fire if the flame goes out and works with an optional wall switch or remote. The Round Flat Hi/Lo Electronic Ignition Kit, 14 in pan, 12 in ring, natural gas, 120 VAC ($3,705.95) adds flame height adjustment of up to 45% by remote or HPC’s Bluetooth app. Per the listings, sizes 19 in and up use HPC’s star shaped Penta burner and the 14 in model a standard ring. Our match lit vs electronic ignition comparison explains the trade-offs in depth.

HPC fire bowl range

HPC does sell fire bowls, all as gas units. The lighter option is the 35 in Round Aluminum Spun Torpedo Fire Bowl, natural gas, match lit ($2,460.50): 5052 aluminum with powder coat, a 304 stainless Penta burner and round flat pan, and 65,000 to 125,000 BTU depending on model and gas input. Copper bowls (Tempe, Mesa, Sierra, Sedona and Phoenix) cost more.

HPC torpedo burner accessories and torches

  • TK torches. The TK Torch Manual Match Lit Kit, propane, black ($975.65) lists a stainless burner assembly, gas shutoff if no flame is present, 25,000 BTU max, and a 3 year hardware and 1 year gas control warranty. Note the listing gives both a 96 in post and an 84 in height; confirm before you plan placement.
  • Wind guards. Tempered glass with polished edges and stainless corner brackets, in rectangle and linear sizes, such as the 31 x 19 in Rectangle Glass Wind Guard ($261.25).
  • Burner covers. Stainless, in rectangle and linear trough sizes.
  • Commercial timers. The Commercial Outdoor 2 Hour Automatic Shutoff Timer ($519.65) stops gas flow after two hours; a 12 hour version is also listed.

Who HPC Fire suits, and how to pick

On paper, HPC suits DIY builders and contractors who want a complete, certified system from one maker, and commercial sites that need timers and electronic control. It suits buyers less who want a finished fire table; most products assume an enclosure.

  1. Pick the shape from your enclosure: round, square, H for rectangles, Interlink for long runs, or a bowl.
  2. Pick ignition: MLFPK for simplicity, FPPK for flame sensing without power, electronic when you have a 120 VAC line.
  3. Choose standard or Torpedo burners based on the flame look you want and the BTU your gas line can supply.
  4. Order the correct fuel version; natural gas and propane listings look nearly identical.

Gas work is not a DIY guess. A licensed gas fitter and your local code have the final word on line sizing, venting and installation.

Frequently asked questions

Is HPC Fire a good brand?

Based on specs, HPC lists 304 stainless burners, CSA certified ignition systems and a Limited Lifetime Warranty on its Torpedo H-burners.

What is the difference between an HPC fire pit kit marked FPPK and MLFPK?

Per our listings, MLFPK kits are match lit with a key valve, and FPPK kits use battery push button spark ignition with flame sensing shutoff.

Does an HPC Torpedo burner put out more heat?

HPC’s sizing drawing recommends higher BTU for Torpedo H-burners at most sizes, for example 150,000 vs 90,000 BTU at 24 x 6 in. Actual output depends on your valve and gas supply.

Does HPC make a fire bowl?

Yes. We carry HPC fire bowls in spun aluminum and in hammered or smooth copper.
