Massage chair weight capacity is the maximum user weight a manufacturer says the frame, motors and rollers are built to carry. It is not printed on every listing, and when it is, it varies a lot by model. Below we pull the stated max user weight, user height range and chair weight for the massage chairs we carry, show where the numbers come from, and explain what to do when a spec is missing.
Massage chair weight capacity by model
These figures come from our product pages or, where our page was missing the number, the manufacturer’s own brochure or spec page. “Not stated, call us” means we could not find a published figure on our listing or a manufacturer source we opened. Prices are at the time of writing.

For context on Kahuna’s current Dios line, the Dios-7300 brochure lists a maximum user weight of 280 lbs and a recommended user height of 5’1″ to 6’3″, per Kahuna. The Dios-1288 brochure lists 265 lbs. So even within one brand, two flagship chairs differ by 15 lbs. Always check the exact model.
Where the massage chair weight limit comes from
The number is set by the manufacturer for that specific frame and mechanism. It accounts for the recline motors, the leg rest actuator, the roller track and the seat structure. A chair can look large and still have a modest rating, and a compact chair can be rated higher than you expect. That is why we do not quote a single “industry standard” figure: the sources we opened give model specific numbers only.
Where to look, in order:
- The spec table on the product page (look for “weight capacity”, “max user weight” or “maximum load”).
- The manufacturer’s brochure or spec sheet. For the Dios-1288, the user weight and height range appear in the Kahuna Dios-1288 brochure, not in the owner’s manual.
- The owner’s manual’s safety and specification pages.
- If none of those state it, call us before ordering. We will ask the manufacturer for the figure in writing.
Choosing a massage chair for a heavy person
If you are close to or above a chair’s stated limit, pick a different model rather than hoping it holds up. Running a chair over its rating can strain the recline and leg rest motors and may affect warranty coverage, so read the warranty terms in the manual for that model.
What to check besides the weight number
- Seat width. The Pacari leatherette chair lists a 28″ seat width and 22″ seat depth on our page. Wider hips and shoulders need room, or the side airbags will press hard even at low settings.
- Airbag intensity controls. Look for adjustable air pressure so arm and hip airbags can be turned down.
- Getting in and out. Seat height (21″ on the Pacari) affects how easy it is to stand up from the chair.
- Roller intensity. 3D and 4D mechanisms let you adjust how far rollers protrude, which helps with comfort for larger frames. Our massage chair buying guide covers mechanism types in more detail.
Massage chair for big and tall users
Height is the other half of fit. The roller track has to reach from your neck to your lower back, and the leg rest has to fit your calves and feet. Kahuna’s Dios-1288 brochure gives a recommended user height of 5’1″ to 6’4″, and the Dios-7300 brochure gives 5’1″ to 6’3″. Outside those ranges, the rollers may miss your shoulders or the foot wells may be too short. Body scan features adjust roller position within the track, but they cannot extend a track that is too short for your torso.
If height is your main concern, see our guide to a massage chair for tall people.
How much does a massage chair weigh?
Chair weight matters for delivery, stairs and floors. On the models above, net weight runs from 96 lbs for the compact CM-Hani3200 to 266 lbs for the Dios-1288 (per Kahuna). Shipping weight is higher because of packaging: the SM-7300S Cloud Edition ships at 246 lbs and the Dios-1288 at 333 lbs per Kahuna.
Add your own weight to the chair weight to estimate the load on the floor. If you have an older floor, a raised deck or an upper level with known sag, follow the manual and ask a licensed contractor before placing a heavy chair there. Plan the delivery path too: measure doorways, hallways and turns. Our article on how much space a massage chair needs covers clearance for reclining.
Freight shipping is free on orders of $999 or more; orders below that ship for a flat $200.
Health and safety notes
A massage chair is not a medical device, and limits on weight and height are only part of safe use. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or have had recent surgery, check with your doctor before using any massage chair. The Kahuna Dios-1288 owner’s manual lists people who should not use the chair, including those with osteoporosis, heart disease or an implanted pacemaker, and tells pregnant women and people with health issues to consult a doctor before use. It also says to stop and see a physician if anything feels abnormal during a session, and not to let anyone stand or sit on the backrest or armrests. Read the safety section of your own model’s manual before first use.

Frequently asked questions
What is the weight limit on a massage chair?
It depends on the model. Among chairs where we found a stated figure, the Pacari leatherette chair is rated 220 lbs on our listing and the Kahuna Dios-1288 is rated 265 lbs per Kahuna. Several listings do not state a limit, so call us for those.
Can a heavy person use a massage chair?
Yes, if the chair’s stated massage chair weight capacity covers your weight and the seat is wide enough. Choose a model with a published rating above your weight rather than one with no stated limit.
Is there a massage chair for big and tall people?
Look for both a higher max user weight and a height range that includes you. Kahuna’s Dios-1288 lists 265 lbs and 5’1″ to 6’4″, per Kahuna’s brochure.
How much does a massage chair weigh for shipping?
On our listings, shipping weights range from 144 lbs to 246 lbs, and Kahuna lists 333 lbs gross for the Dios-1288. Plan for two or more people, or white glove delivery where offered.
Does exceeding the weight limit void the warranty?
Warranty terms vary by brand, so read the warranty section of your model’s manual or call us and we will check with the manufacturer.
