NewAge Garage Cabinets Review: Bold Series Sets Compared

This NewAge garage cabinets review focuses on the Bold Series, because that is where most of the NewAge cabinet sets we list sit. The short version: Bold sets mix fully welded cabinets with flat-packed RTA (ready to assemble) lockers, use 24-gauge steel on most parts, and come in fixed configurations from a 3-piece starter to a 14-piece wall. Below we compare the sets we carry, explain what gauge and welding actually change, and show how to measure your wall before you order.

All specs here come from our product pages and from NewAge’s own Bold Series and support pages. Prices are at the time of writing, so check the live listing before you buy.

NewAge garage cabinets review: which Bold sets we carry

NewAge splits Bold into three versions on its Bold Series page: standard Bold (fully welded, up to 18 in. deep, lockers rated to 800 lbs.), Bold XL (up to 24 in. deep, 20-gauge shelving, lockers rated to 900 lbs.) and Bold RTA (flat-packed lockers, full assembly required, 800 lbs.). All three carry a limited lifetime warranty according to NewAge.

Set Pieces Wall width Steel Construction Price at time of writing
Bold XL 3PC 3 (locker, rolling tool drawer, wall cabinet) 54 in. 24-gauge frame, 20-gauge shelves Welded frames, 24 in. deep locker $1,429.99
Bold 7PC (partial assembly) 7 108 in. 24-gauge Welded base and wall cabinets, 2 RTA lockers $1,574.99
Bold 7PC with workbench 7 180 in. 24-gauge 1 welded locker, 3 RTA lockers, RTA workbench $1,899.99
Bold 10PC (partial assembly) 10 162 in. 24-gauge Welded base and wall cabinets, 3 RTA lockers $2,199.99
Bold 14PC 14 234 in. 24-gauge Fully welded, minimal assembly $3,629.99

Every set above is 18 in. deep and 72 in. tall on paper, rising to 75.25 to 76.75 in. once the adjustable leveling legs go on, except the Bold XL set, which is 24 in. deep and 76.75 in. tall. Worktops on the standard Bold sets come in bamboo or stainless steel.

We also list the newer Bold 3.0 configurations, such as the Bold 3.0 Grey 7 PC with a 48 in. stainless top and the Bold 3.0 Grey 12 PC corner set, plus single pieces like the 30 in. Bold RTA locker. Those product pages do not yet list dimensions or gauge, so confirm the exact contents with us or on the NewAge page before ordering.

Garage cabinet steel gauge: 24 vs 20 (and 22)

Steel gauge runs backwards: a lower number means thicker sheet. So 20-gauge shelves are thicker than 24-gauge panels, which is why NewAge uses 20-gauge shelving in Bold XL, where each locker shelf is rated to 200 lbs. on our listing.

One thing to know about Bold 3.0: NewAge’s Bold Series support FAQ states that Bold 3.0 uses 22-gauge frames with 24-gauge doors, while its marketing page describes Bold as 24-gauge throughout. If gauge matters to your decision, check the spec sheet for the exact item number. The same FAQ lists Bold RTA lockers as 24-gauge.

In practice, gauge matters most for doors and side panels that take knocks from bikes, ladders and car doors. The weight ratings matter more for what you plan to store.

Load ratings from NewAge

  • Bold locker: 800 lbs. total, 150 lbs. per shelf, 3 shelves adjustable in 8 in. steps
  • Bold 2-door base cabinet: 600 lbs. total, 200 lbs. on its shelf
  • Bold wall cabinet: 100 lbs. total
  • Bold XL locker: 900 lbs. total; rolling tool drawer: 320 lbs.

Welded vs partially welded garage cabinets

A fully welded cabinet arrives as a rigid box. You attach handles, shelves and legs, but the frame is already square. An RTA locker ships flat and you build the box yourself. NewAge confirms its RTA locker is not a welded structure and that its panels assemble without tools; tools are only needed to connect RTA lockers to welded cabinets and to fit the worktop side support.

That is what “partial assembly” means in our set names: the base and wall cabinets are welded, and the lockers are RTA. The trade-off is simple. Flat-pack ships smaller and costs less; welded boxes go up faster and do not rely on your build quality to stay square. NewAge says RTA lockers bolt to welded cabinets through side connecting holes, so mixed sets line up as one run.

NewAge Bold vs Pro Series

We also list the Pro 3.0 line, for example the Pro 3.0 Grey 8 PC with an 84 in. stainless top at $3,219.99 at the time of writing. According to the Pro Series support FAQ, Pro 3.0 uses 18-gauge frames and 19-gauge double-walled door fronts, and its locker shelves adjust in 1 in. steps. NewAge also lists soft-close hardware for Pro. Bold is the value line; Pro is the heavier build for people who want thicker steel and finer adjustment.

How to measure your wall for a Bold set

  1. Width: measure the clear wall at floor level and again at about 6 ft., since door frames, panels and pipes often stick out higher up. Compare it with the set width in the table.
  2. Height: lockers stand 75.25 to 76.75 in. on their legs. Check garage door tracks, openers and windows.
  3. Depth: allow 18 in. for Bold (24 in. for Bold XL), plus room for doors to swing open and for you to stand in front with the car parked.
  4. Wall cabinets: mark studs, since wall cabinets hang on the wall and carry up to 100 lbs. each.
  5. Outlets: note where they fall. Bold lockers and base cabinets have cable access holes for charging tools behind closed doors.

Frequently asked questions

Is NewAge Bold Series worth it?

For most home garages, Bold covers the basics: lockable doors with a magnetic latch, adjustable steel shelves, leveling legs and a powder-coated finish, backed by a limited lifetime warranty per NewAge. If you want thicker steel and soft-close doors, compare the Pro Series first.

What is the difference between NewAge Bold and Bold XL?

Depth and capacity. Bold XL cabinets go up to 24 in. deep with 20-gauge shelves and a 900 lb. locker rating, against 18 in. and 800 lbs. for standard Bold.

How long does a partially welded set take to assemble?

NewAge does not publish an assembly time. The welded cabinets need handles, shelves and legs; each RTA locker is a full build without tools. Plan for two people to lift and level the welded pieces.

Can I add cabinets to a Bold set later?

Yes. Our listings describe the sets as expandable with other Bold cabinets, and NewAge confirms RTA lockers attach to welded Bold cabinets.
