Awesome grill. This is my second Acorn grill. The first one I literally wore it out, it was about ten years old. I own 2 pellet grills as well but my most often picked to cook on is the Acorn grill. I love my pellet grills for a long cook like pulled pork or brisket. Happy the grill came back in stock.

Awesome results regardless of talent. This grill has made smoking meat very easy. The days of me obsessing over a side box are over! It is so efficient that charcoal has to be cleaned out every second or third cook. Keeping it clean is important. I can’t believe I got it for less than $400. The smoking stone is worth the money. This is the grill/smoker for those of us that are too lazy to obsess about it but still want great results. If it lasts five years, it will have been worth every penny.

Red Akorn. I bought this some 10 years ago, still use it, a little rusty but works great, this baby I got up to 700 degrees, accidentally. Bought a stone for it and still use it, my second char-griller. It is the Red one, and I do not know if I picked the right one to review. Steaks, burgers, slow grill all work.

Akorn vs BGE. I was gifted a schmedium BGE several years ago and became proficient at cooking on it. We enjoy the taste of the food it cooks so much that we decided to get a similar cooker for our lake house. I compared multiple Kamado style cookers and chose the Akorn primarily because of the size and price. The metal construction is very efficient and maintains its temperature while getting up to temperature faster than its ceramic counterparts. I cooked chicken quarters for the first time tonight and have to say they were at least equivalent, if not better than what I’ve cooked on my BGE. I highly recommend the Akorn!

Set it and forget is number #1. I bought my Auto Kamado in December 2025. I use it 4-5 times a week. I have had other "automated" systems, the auto kamado is by far the best. It keeps in perfect , set it to 400° it reaches that temp in minutes and holds it all day! Best auto system, period!

4 Years - Still Works - Issues R 100% My Fault! Let me say, PLEASE Come out with a Version 2.0!!!
This is the future of grilling! I have pictures to prove it. After 1-2-3-4 Years of use, cooking, grilling, roasting, smoking, etc. YES I did indeed use all these features, and they all work.
The grill has seen better days, but it is 100% my fault and if anything a testament to the longevity of the product.
In short, my Auto-Kamado (Tee Em!! as Ricky Bobby would add) has sat outside, too often uncovered (including at least 1 entire winter), in Wisconsin and I am still today, remotely monitoring the heat-up of the grill for some cod, chicken, and sirloin as I type. I've had a porterhouse, a couple dozen brats(wursts), several packages of natural casing weiners, .... all this season already. I love that I can literally use this thing year round, so long as I get off my butt to keep the back grill area clear of snow. It's nearly a "set it and forget it" kind of machine, at least compared to non-automatic models.
I have MANY version 2.0 ideas and will be sharing with the char-griller crew.
As is, I really cannot complain. Had I brought it in, or at least covered it up after cooling after each use, even this wouldn't be an issue. That issue, is the included thermometers stopped activating the temperature setting on the grill as I believe the 1/4" female sockets on the base by the control screen and buttons, which require you to insert a little, still attached via the rubber loop, plug

Love our AKORN…but. Love my AKORN cooker (actually my second)! We use it all the time for low-and-slow smoking to ripping hot searing. But twice now, the architecture supporting the ash pan has burned out requiring either a new ash pan kit…or a whole new cooker. Seems like a design flaw.

Had the original, this is a game changer! I had the original for years. I loved it, and still do, but my wife got me the Auto as a gift. There’s a bit of a learning curve but it isn’t bad. The build is what I have come to expect from Char-Griller; exceptional! The Auto-Kamado screams quality. There’s nothing “cheap” about it, except for the price! The build is rock solid and it is definitely built to last! Looks like this one is a keeper that I will have and enjoy for years to come!

My 2nd Auto Kamado, but certainly not the last. This is my 2nd Auto Kamado. I’m still using the first, but it’s beginning to wear out from age and use. I received an email from Akorn about a one day flash sale for the Auto, so I jumped on it. Needless to say, I feel that this grill is fantastic, and suits my cooking style very well. Can’t see myself using anything other grill.

Green Egg Overcomer. I purchased my Kamado grill some 6 plus years back because the "Egg" was just too dog gone expensive. The Akorñ is well built, the grates sturdy, and overall seemed to me to be as good as the "Egg" without the high pricetag. I have smoked chickens, tenderloins, 100 - 1" to 1 1/2" boneless pork chops for a Christmas supper for my Sunday School Class, and grilled numerous burgers and hotdogs. It has exceeded all of my expectations and then some. I have replaced the ashpan and added a premium cover. Am glad I chose to purchase this grill and would recommend it to anyone.

Awesome Akorn Kamado Grill. This grill, a Father's Day gift from my wife several years ago, has completely transformed my outdoor cooking. I've gone from someone who just grilled burgers to the person friends and family rely on for perfectly smoked ribs and exquisitely seared steaks.
The Akorn's triple-walled insulation is no joke; it holds temperature for hours with surprising fuel efficiency, whether I'm doing a long, low-and-slow smoke or cranking it up for high-heat grilling.
The cast iron grates give an incredible sear, and the smoky flavor it imparts is something you just can't get from a gas grill.
While there was a bit of a learning curve to master the dampers, the results are more than worth it.
It’s a versatile and reliable workhorse that has a permanent spot in my backyard.

Don't balme the grill! I've had my AKORN for almost ten years now. Used it for about 5 years and then set it aside for a newer shinier grill. Two years ago I pulled the cover off, and fired it up again. I've learned so much since the first round of use that I now realize now how poorly I managed the fire the first time around. I loved it for round 1 but it's even better now! I have no trouble maintaining temp with minimal effort and no refills for 8 hour cooks.
It's a great tool, but like anything, give yourself time to learn it. You won't regret it. Well worth the price!

My second chargriller. I bought my first Kamado grill about 7 years ago at a close-out sale at Tractor Supply. I didn't read the user instructions (of course) and used way too much wood the first few times I used it. After I was able to dial in how to use the grill, what a great unit. I bought the exact same grill last month, put it together, (while reading the instructions). Wanting to make sure it lasts, I wiped the inside of the grill with vegetable oil and started a small fire inside the grill, kind of like curing a cast iron skillet. I smoked a salmon fillet last night at 225 degrees F. Turned out great.

Fantastic Grill well worth the wait. I can see why this grill was always SOLD OUT every time that I tried to order it. Zero to hero. I received my Akorn for Father’s Day three years ago. I’ve owned a few grills over the years, and if I’m being honest, most of my early “BBQ” was just enthusiastic guessing. Then I got the Char-Griller Akorn, and suddenly I went from “guy who brought chips” to “guy everyone asks to cook.” I’m not saying this grill changed my life… but my swordfish has a fan club now.
The biggest difference is charcoal flavor done right. The Akorn runs on lump charcoal, and it gives food that real-deal, wood-fire taste — not overpowering, just that subtle smoky depth that makes people stop mid-bite and go, “Wait… what did you do to this?” When I grill swordfish, it picks up this perfect kiss of smoke while still tasting clean and fresh. It’s the kind of flavor you expect from a coastal restaurant, not someone standing in sneakers next to a patio chair.
What really surprised me is the heat retention. This thing holds temperature like it has a personal grudge against fluctuation. Once it’s set, it just cruises. That steady heat lets me get a beautiful crust on the outside of the swordfish while keeping the inside tender and juicy. Before the Akorn, my seafood results ranged from “not bad” to “why is this dry?” Now it’s consistently spot-on.
The temperature control is also way easier than it looks. The dampers let you dial in the airflow so you can go low and slow or screaming hot. For swordfish, I crank it up and get that steakhouse-style sear that locks everything in. Hea

Works Great About 30% of the Time! Got this as a replacement to the regular (all-manual) Akorn (which had lasted me, IDK, 6-8 years living covered but outside before it was rusted out enough to chunk it) . . . so I was really happy with the idea of a digitally controlled version as a replacement.
Within a few weeks of use, I was getting an ErF error message (error fan, for those that don't have one). Contacted customer support, they sent out a new fan. Put that in, same issue.
It works properly only ABOUT 30% of the time!
Otherwise, I have to resort to getting the coals going (I use a heater element type starting method), and just have to unlatch the ash pan on both sides to get some airflow, and then just have the electronics on so I can see the actual temp. (which means, that I'm just using it like the all-manual one, but with a temp read-out).
Temp probe also went bad around Feb of this year (2025). And the replacement on Amazon was way cheaper (and works great). But at least it was an easy fix, that actually works.
But the ErF issue . . . deal-breaker for me. I'm not willing to throw down $2k for a Konnected Joe, but I bet they have their issues worked out. The brain on this thing is a SIMPLE bit of electronics, surely it can't be that hard to get it right.
Long story short. It shouldn't be this way. And they aren't much help.

This is the best grill I’ve ever had. I’ve had the Auto Kamado for about 30 months. I use it 4 or 5 days a week. It’s as easy as cooking in an oven. Put charcoal in, light with a torch, use the torch to heat the vent at the top so that it melts the grease that’s collected there allowing it to open. Set the temp you want and open the vent by the fan. It will tell you how far to open the top vent. The more you use it the less you will rely on that information.
I’ve replaced the thermometer twice and the fan once. It’s simply a 60mm 3 wire fan. You don’t have to make it complicated. Match the wire colors. The thermometer wire wears out because it flexes every time you open the lid. They’re cheap. Buy a couple for the future.
I cannot stress how much I love this grill.

Lots To Love. I had been using gas grills for many years and wanted to get a charcoal grill again for the added smoked taste and less flair ups. The Akorn Kamado grill fit the bill perfectly. I liked it so much after the first dozen uses that I got rid of my old gas grill.
While I had also been looking at pellet grills, I kept seeing the horror stories about jammed feeders and having to do a lot of maintenance to keep them going. The AKORN grill only requires that I dump the ashes when I get ready to use it again or I can dump them into the metal ash can that I picked up right away after it cools down.
One thing that seems to be the best thing about this grill is the ceramic warming plate under the grid. I picked this up at the same time that I bought the grill and have used it almost exclusively for baking pizza, roasts and even when I am a bit too lazy to worry about flare ups when I am grilling steaks and chops.
Will definitely be shopping for another one of these grills when this one finally weathers out and needs replacing.

Love this grill/smoker. I love the Akron! I think it makes all other Kamari obsolete! It well made, and performs very well. Whether you are smoking low and slow or cranking it up for the perfect seared steak, it is perfect! I love that it doesn’t weigh Aton and I am able to move it by myself.

Love My Auto Kamado! I've had my Auto Kamado two years now and it is my favorite grill and smoker. It's so easy! It make the best chicken, whether is wings, legs, thighs, leg quarters, or whole beer can or spatchcock! It's flawless!! It also rocks out pulled pork, ribs, and even brisket. It always rocks out great bbq, grilled or smoked food!! I love this thing and it's so easy to use!

Great value for the money. I wanted a Kamodo style grill for a long time, but just didn't want to spend $1000. The Akorn Kamodo works great and saved me $$$. I can do everything I want on it, smoke, grill, bake, sear, it does it all.

Excellent smoker. I have had one of these for years now, still love it.

Does it all! Been using mine for several years with great success both smoking & grilling. Takes a while to get used to using it but certainly does the job well. Able to smoke pork butt type roast on one load of charcoal, used chunk type. very happy with purchase.

Cooks great food everytime. I have had my ACORN for over 2 years and have not run into any issues with parts or performance. It is my go to for overall food flavor and consistency

The most amazing grill I’ve ever had. I have 2 of these and 1 Akorn Jr. because I do a lot of outdoor cooking. Once you get past the learning curve of temperature control, the sky is the limit.

Great grill. I really liked the Akorn, it is well built and really holds it's temperature for a long time. I used a pizza pan under the grid to catch drippings. It really helped on clean up.Get a brush, keep it clean. You don't need much wood to add flavor. This grill really does a great job infusing smoke into the meat. Take your time, don't start out with expensive meat. Use the top and bottom vents to see where your sweet spot is. Start out with wings or thighs. They are more forgiving if you over cook at first. But it you hang with it, you will have a great grill for years to come.

WOW. I had been looking into this grill for three or four years but had been holding off. A friend of mine has one and swears by it so I bought one. This grill has lived up to everything he told me from low charcoal consumption to not having to watch over it all day. This is as close to a electric smoker or gas grill you can get. Set it and forget it. I can hold 230 all day long or open up the dampers to get 600 degrees of steak searing magic.

Great Durable Smoker. I bought this smoker over 5 years ago and am not dissatisfied. It can sear fantastically or smoke low and slow if desired. Truly a versatile smoker. I highly recommend for the price.

Beautiful upgrade. Set a temp amd have confidence it will stay, beware, i generally have to close the damper a little more then it says you need to.

Akorn Kamado. I have owned an Akorn Kamado for several years and use it quite often. It still looks as good as the day I purchased it. If it ever has to be replaced it will be the same purchase

akorn Kamado. My first one lasted about 10 year and was in the elements most of the time. Just purchased my second one and seasoned the grate and had some great food with family. Great cost for a egg like grill, but no sticker shock.

Easy to use. Great construction. Fantastic results. Have stopped using it since I got it. No matter what I cook, I get the same awesome results.
