An electric fireplace in a bathroom can be safe, but only when three things line up: the model’s own manual approves bathroom installation, the circuit has ground fault (GFCI) protection, and the unit sits well away from the tub and shower. Not every electric fireplace qualifies. Amantii’s manuals are a good example: some models include a dedicated “For Bathroom Use” section, while at least one tells you never to install it where water is in use. Before you plan an electric fireplace in bathroom walls, read the manual for the exact model.
Electric fireplace in bathroom remodels: is it safe?
An electric fireplace has no combustion, no gas line and no vent, which is why it is the only realistic fireplace option for most bathrooms. The risk in a bathroom is not fire so much as water meeting electricity. Steam, splashes and wet hands are all part of the room.
Amantii’s general safety list, which appears in several of its manuals, says it plainly: not all fireplaces are suitable for use in bathrooms or laundry facilities, so check the individual product literature to confirm suitability. That is the first filter. The second is placement, and the third is wiring done by a licensed electrician to local code.
What Amantii’s manuals say about bathrooms
Here is what the Amantii owner’s manuals for the series we sell say about bathrooms.
| Manual (series) | Bathroom section? | What it says |
|---|---|---|
| Panorama Extra Slim (BI-XTRASLIM) | Yes | Must be protected by a ground fault receptacle or circuit; a receptacle must be readily accessible; unit is not watertight; install away from showers and tubs |
| Panorama Slim (BI-SLIM) | Yes | Same bathroom wording as the Extra Slim |
| Panorama Deep XT (BI-DEEP-XT) | Yes | Same bathroom wording |
| TruView Slim (TRV-SLIM) | Yes | Same bathroom wording |
| Traditional XtraSlim (TRD) | No, the opposite | Never install or use the heater anywhere water is in use, for example bathrooms, kitchens or swimming pools |
| WM-FM wall mount or built-in | No | Only the general warning that not all fireplaces suit bathrooms |
Every manual with a bathroom section also tells you to consult a professional electrician and follow all code requirements for bathroom installations.
Electric fireplace near a tub or shower
The approved manuals are specific about placement. The unit must be installed so water cannot get into it, it must be away from showers and tubs, and you should never place it where it could fall into a bathtub or other water container. In practice that means:
- Do not put it inside a shower enclosure or on a wall that gets direct spray.
- Do not mount it on the wall directly above or beside the tub rim where splashes land.
- Choose a recessed install over a hanging or freestanding unit, so nothing can tip or drop.
- Keep the plug or junction box out of the splash zone and, if a receptacle is used, easy to reach.
- Keep towels, robes and bath mats at least 3 feet from the front of the unit, which is the combustible clearance these manuals list.
How far is “away” from the tub? The manuals do not give a number, so your electrician and your local inspector decide that for your room.
Damp location fireplace: does an indoor/outdoor rating help?
Several Amantii lines are listed for covered outdoor use, and that is a useful sign for a steamy bathroom. The Panorama manuals say the units suit outdoor areas protected from direct water impingement, with a roof overhang in front and to each side. Amantii’s separate outdoor installation sheet spells out that overhang: it must extend at least half the roof line height measured from the base of the fireplace.
That rating is not a waterproof rating. The same manuals still say the unit is not watertight. The Panorama warranty section also states that Panorama units installed outdoors or in moisture intense conditions must use the stainless steel cover, and proof of purchase of the cover is required for warranty claims. If your bathroom runs very humid, ask us about the matching cover before you finish the wall. The Panorama Extra Slim and Slim manuals also recommend the protective pan cover for outdoor installs.
As the Fireplaces Direct buying guide notes, you do not always need an outdoor rated unit for a bathroom, but you do need one the manual allows there.
Bathroom-friendly Amantii models we carry
These Amantii electric fireplaces come from series whose manuals include a bathroom section. Specs are from our product listings; where a listing does not state a figure we say so.
| Model | Depth (listing) | Heat (listing) | Voltage | Rated for (listing) | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Panorama 30-in Extra Slim | 4 in to recess | 400 to 500 sq ft | Not listed | Indoor or covered outdoor | $1,399 |
| Panorama 40-in Slim | Just under 7 in | 400 to 500 sq ft | Not listed | Indoor or outdoor | $1,799 |
| Panorama 50-in Slim | Under 7 in | 400 to 500 sq ft | Not listed | Indoor or outdoor | $1,999 |
| Panorama Indoor/Outdoor 50-in Deep XT | Not listed | 4,800 BTU, 400 to 500 sq ft | Not listed | Indoor and covered outdoor | $3,599 |
| TruView Slim 30-in (3-sided) | 4 in | 2-stage, up to 400 sq ft | Not listed | Indoor or outdoor | $2,099 |
For contrast, the Amantii 26-in Traditional XtraSlim ($1,299, 750W low and 1500W high) is a good fit for a bedroom electric fireplace, but its manual rules out bathrooms, so we would not put it there.
A note on heat: every unit above is rated for far more floor area than a typical bathroom. Use the low setting, or turn the heater off entirely. The Deep XT and TruView Slim listings state that the flames run independently of the heater.
Wiring and GFCI: who signs off
The bathroom sections call for ground fault protection on the receptacle or circuit, and they say all wiring connections must meet local building code. Code rules vary by jurisdiction, so we will not quote them here. A licensed electrician and your local code have the final word on circuit size, GFCI type, receptacle location and whether a hardwired connection makes more sense. Most of these units recess into the wall, so read our recessed electric fireplace installation guide before framing.
Bathroom fireplace ideas that work
- Across the room from the tub. Recess a slim unit into the wall you face from the bath, outside the splash zone, so you see the flames without the water risk.
- Bath to bedroom partition. The TruView Slim can be set up with three sides open, one side open or both sides closed, which suits a primary suite wall.
- Vanity or dressing wall. A 30-in or 40-in unit fits between cabinets and gives warmth while you get ready.
- Height for the view. Plan the height from where you sit or soak. Keep the flames near eye level from the tub or chair you use most.
If small children use the bathroom, our electric fireplace safety guide for kids covers glass temperature and supervision.
Frequently asked questions
Can you put an electric fireplace in a bathroom?
Yes, if the manual for that exact model allows it. Several Amantii manuals include a bathroom section; the Traditional XtraSlim manual says never to install it where water is in use.
Does a bathroom electric fireplace need a GFCI?
The Amantii manuals that allow bathroom use require ground fault protection on the receptacle or circuit. Your electrician and local code decide the details.
How close can an electric fireplace be to a tub?
The manuals say away from showers and tubs and never where it could fall into a tub, without giving a distance. Your inspector sets the final placement.
Is an indoor/outdoor fireplace better for a damp bathroom?
It helps, but it is not waterproof. Panorama units in moisture intense conditions must use the stainless steel cover to keep warranty coverage.
