Electric Fireplace Troubleshooting: No Heat, No Flame

Most electric fireplace troubleshooting comes down to five things: power, the thermal safety cut-out, the heat setting, the remote, and burnt-out LEDs. Amantii prints the same troubleshooting table in its WM-FM, Panorama BI-SLIM and Traditional XtraSlim manuals, and its first fix for a unit that shuts off and will not restart is simple: turn off the main switch, let it cool for 10 minutes, then turn it back on. This guide walks through each symptom in order, what the manuals say causes it, what you can safely check yourself, and when to stop and call for service.

Safety first: turn the unit off and unplug it, or switch off its breaker, before you remove the glass, touch the media or inspect anything inside. Amantii’s manuals say to disconnect all power before cleaning, maintenance or moving the fireplace.

Electric fireplace troubleshooting table

This table combines the troubleshooting section of the Amantii WM-FM manual, which matches the Panorama BI-SLIM manual and the Traditional XtraSlim manual, with the first checks we would make.

Symptom Likely cause (per the manuals) What to do
Turns off and will not turn back on Overheated; thermal safety switch disconnected it. Or the house breaker tripped, or the unit’s fuse blew Turn off the main switch, wait 10 minutes, turn on. Reset the breaker. Fuse replacement per the manual
Will not come on at all Not plugged in; thermal cut-out; failed circuit board Check the plug and outlet, then the cool-down reset. A board fault needs service
No warm air Heater burnt out Check the heat setting and AUTO setpoint first. If heat is on and set high, the heater needs inspection
Dim or no flame Flame LEDs burnt out (Traditional XtraSlim also lists a loose back cloth or flicker) LED replacement; call us or Amantii for parts
Ember bed not glowing Ember LEDs burnt out Check the ember/mood light setting, then LEDs
Flame sputters or is frozen Flame motor defective, or loose wiring Call a qualified service technician
Remote does nothing Low batteries; unit’s main switch in the “O” position New AAA batteries; set the switch to “I”
Squeaking noise Flicker rod rubbing its bushing (Amantii FAQ) Re-grease per your model’s repair guide

Electric fireplace not heating

A fireplace that shows flames but no heat is usually doing what it was told. On Amantii units the flame and heater are separate functions, so the flames can run with the heater off. Work through these checks:

  1. Is the heater actually on? On the WM-FM remote, each press of the heater button cycles H1 (low, 750 W), H2 (high, 1500 W), AUTO, then off. If the display shows nothing for heat, the heater is off.
  2. Is AUTO set below room temperature? In AUTO, the manual says the fireplace adjusts to the temperature you set. If the room is already warmer than your setting, the heater has no reason to run. Raise the setpoint and listen for it to start.
  3. Did it overheat? Blocked vents or cushions and curtains too close can cause overheating, which trips the thermal switch. Amantii’s manuals say to keep combustibles at least 3 feet from the front, and the US Fire Administration’s heating safety guidance gives the same 3 foot rule for all heat sources (see our bedroom fireplace safety guide).
  4. Is the circuit overloaded? The WM-FM manual calls for a 15 amp, 120 volt circuit and prefers a dedicated one, so other loads on the same circuit do not trip the breaker or blow fuses.

If the heat is on, set high and the vents are clear but there is still no warm air, the manuals blame the heater assembly. That is a service call.

Electric fireplace blowing cold air

If the vent blows air that feels cool, start with the settings: confirm the heater is on (H1, H2 or AUTO) and that the AUTO setpoint is above the current room temperature. If the unit is set to H2 (high) and the air stays cool after several minutes, stop using the heat and contact us or Amantii, since the manuals list “heater is burnt out” as the cause of no warm air.

Electric fireplace reset: the 10 minute cool-down

The Amantii manuals we checked do not describe a reset button. The reset they give for an appliance that “turns off and will not turn on” is to turn off the main switch, let the appliance cool for 10 minutes, then turn it on. Two related warnings from the same manuals matter here:

  • No timers or smart plugs. The manuals say not to use the heater with a programmer, timer, separate remote-control system or any device that switches it on automatically, and that the appliance must not be supplied through an external switching device, so the thermal cut-out cannot be reset by accident. Use the built-in timer (30 minutes to 8 hours) instead.
  • No extension cords. The Traditional XtraSlim manual warns that an extension cord can overheat and cause a fire, and the WM-FM manual says not to run the cord under carpet or rugs or use a damaged cord or plug.

Electric fireplace flame not working

When the flame is dim, missing or frozen, the manuals point to the LEDs and the flame motor:

  • Dim or no flame: flame LEDs burnt out. On the Traditional XtraSlim, the manual also lists a back cloth that has come loose and rolled into the flicker.
  • Flame sputters: defective flame motor; the manual says to call a qualified service technician.
  • Flame is fixed (not moving): loose wiring or a defective flame motor.
  • Ember bed dark: on the WM-FM, the ember bed and mood light have 11 brightness levels plus off, so check that it is not simply turned off before assuming an LED failure.

Electric fireplace remote not working

  1. Replace the AAA batteries. Amantii notes it no longer includes batteries with the remote.
  2. Check that the unit’s main switch is in the “I” (on) position, not “O”. The WM-FM manual says the fireplace must be plugged in for the remote to work.
  3. Point the remote at the center of the fireplace and press once. The manual says the unit beeps once per press and asks you not to press buttons more than once within two seconds.
  4. Lost remote? The Amantii FAQ links a remote control guide and its parts store to find the right replacement.

Problems with the app instead of the remote? See our Amantii smart WiFi fireplace guide for setup and pairing steps.

Warranty and when to call

Amantii’s manuals give standard fireplaces a two year limited warranty and Bespoke models five years, and exclude units repaired by anyone other than Amantii or its authorized service, along with damage from misuse, incorrect installation or the wrong power source. The service history pages in the BI-SLIM and Traditional XtraSlim manuals also say the heater must be serviced annually depending on usage. So for anything beyond batteries, settings, the breaker and the cool-down reset, call for help rather than opening the unit. Amantii’s warranty form is online.

If you bought your fireplace from us, call 866-777-2590, Monday to Friday, 9AM to 6PM PST, with your model number and a short video of the problem, and we will help with the claim. Amantii models we sell that are covered by these manuals include the WM-FM 34 in, WM-FM 60 in, Panorama 50 in Slim, Panorama 40 in Slim and Traditional XtraSlim 30 in. Frequently asked questions

Why does my electric fireplace turn off by itself?

Often because the thermal safety switch cut power after the unit overheated, or because the built-in timer or AUTO thermostat did its job. Turn off the main switch, wait 10 minutes, clear the vents and the 3 foot zone, and turn it back on.

Is there a reset button on an electric fireplace?

The Amantii manuals we checked do not list one. Their reset is a power cycle: main switch off, 10 minutes to cool, then back on. Also check the house breaker.

Why is my electric fireplace blowing cold air?

Check that the heater is switched on and that the AUTO setpoint is above room temperature, or choose high heat. If the air stays cool on high, the manuals list a failed heater assembly as the cause, which needs service.
