If you are wondering how high to mount an electric fireplace, start with this: Amantii’s installation manuals do not give a recommended mounting height. They give minimum clearances, a 3 foot distance from combustibles, and rules for the plug and wiring, and leave the height to you. For the design side, fireplace maker Napoleon recommends keeping the bottom of an electric fireplace no more than 42 inches off the floor. Below, we combine both with example layouts using Amantii models we carry.
What Amantii’s manuals actually require
We read the current Amantii manuals for the WM-FM wall mount, Symmetry Bespoke, Symmetry XS and Panorama BI Slim, Deep and Xtraslim series (all on Amantii’s documentation page). Here is what affects height and placement:
- Distance from the floor. The WM-FM manual wall mount diagram shows a minimum of 1 inch from the bottom of the unit to the floor and 2 inches from side walls. The Symmetry Bespoke manual shows at least 2 inches above, below and on each side. These are minimums, not recommendations.
- Combustibles. Every manual we read says to keep curtains, furniture, bedding and paper at least 3 feet away. The Symmetry Bespoke manual applies that to the front, sides and rear.
- Mantels. Minimum mantel clearance is 1 inch for WM-FM (from the glass front) and 4 inches for Panorama BI Slim, Deep and Xtraslim (from the trim). A mantel or TV ledge above the unit has to respect that.
- Power. The manuals call for a grounded 15 amp, 120 volt circuit and say a dedicated circuit is preferred. The Symmetry Bespoke manual rules out extension cords and power strips and says the socket should be “accessible and located adjacent to, but not above the heater.”
Amantii’s FAQ does not give a height either.
How high to mount an electric fireplace for seated viewing
Napoleon’s fireplace height guide (napoleon.com/en/us/fireplaces/blog/optimal-fireplace-height-installation-guide) is the clearest design source we found. It says an electric fireplace should be no more than 42 inches from the floor to the bottom of the unit “to ensure a comfortable viewing experience,” that fireplaces can sit anywhere from 6 inches to 42 inches off the floor, and that around 40 to 42 inches is common “for optimal viewing from a seated position.”
Our suggestion: decide where you will mostly view it from. From a sofa, a lower flame line reads naturally, like a traditional hearth. From a dining table, kitchen island or bed, the upper end of that range makes more sense.
Electric fireplace height from floor: add the unit height
The unit’s own height decides where its top edge lands. From Amantii’s manuals and spec sheets:
- WM-FM series: 19 7/8 inches tall and 6 1/8 inches deep in every width.
- Symmetry Lumina 50: 16 7/8 inches tall, with a 13 1/8 inch tall viewing opening (SYM-50 Lumina spec sheet).
- Panorama BI Slim: 23 5/8 inches tall and 6 3/4 inches deep.
- Panorama BI Xtraslim 30: 19 7/8 inches tall and 4 inches deep.
So a WM-FM hung with its bottom at 40 inches puts its top edge near 60 inches, while a Panorama Slim with its bottom at 12 inches tops out near 35 1/2 inches. (Our own arithmetic.)
Wall mount electric fireplace height with TV above
With a TV above, the fireplace usually comes down so the screen is not pushed too high. Napoleon notes that in most setups the bottom of the TV sits about 42 inches from the floor, with the fireplace below it. A short unit like the Symmetry Lumina, under 17 inches tall, makes it easier than a taller firebox.
Heat, mantel clearance by series and TV spacing are covered in our guide to an electric fireplace with a TV above, so we will not repeat them here.
How high should a linear electric fireplace be?
A linear unit works two ways. Set low, from Napoleon’s 6 inch figure up to about knee height, it reads like a modern hearth on a sofa wall or media wall. Raised toward the 42 inch limit, it becomes a band of flame you can see over a dining table or from a kitchen. For width planning, see our linear electric fireplace sizes guide.
Our recessed electric fireplace installation guide covers the wall opening, and built-in vs wall mount covers which style fits your wall.
Bedrooms and homes with kids
In a bedroom, think about the view from the bed. Napoleon notes bedroom fireplaces can be raised higher than in living areas. Keep the bed, nightstands and curtains 3 feet away. Our electric fireplace in the bedroom guide covers sizing and heat.
With small children, height also controls reach. Amantii’s FAQ says the glass front stays cool, but the manuals still warn that the fireplace is hot in use and that extreme caution is needed when any heater is used near children. The Symmetry Bespoke manual adds: use a fireguard around young children and never leave them unsupervised with it on. The WM-FM touch panel sits in the upper left corner and the Symmetry panel at the left front top, so a higher mount moves the controls and heat vent away from small hands.
Outlet and junction box placement
Plan power before you settle the height. The WM-FM, Symmetry Lumina and Panorama documents list the plug on the left side, and the WM-FM cord is 70 7/8 inches long. For built-in WM-FM installs, the manual says to make sure the power supply port is not behind the wall.
- Put the outlet beside the fireplace (the left side for these models), not above it, and keep it reachable.
- To hardwire, the WM-FM manual describes removing the cord and connecting to a junction block behind a cover plate on the left side. That is a job for a licensed electrician working to local code.
- Do not run the cord under carpet or rugs; the WM-FM and Symmetry manuals both warn against it.
Example layouts
These are our own examples using Amantii’s published unit heights and Napoleon’s guidance. The top of unit figures are our arithmetic, and your room may call for something different.
| Room and goal | Example model | Bottom from floor | Approx. top of unit | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Living room, fireplace only | WM-FM 60 in | 30 in | 50 in | Hangs on included brackets or recesses |
| Media wall with TV above | Symmetry Lumina 50 in | 18 in | 35 in | Leaves room for a ledge and TV |
| Floor-level modern hearth | Panorama 50 in Slim | 12 in | 35 1/2 in | Fully recessed, under 7 in deep |
| Bedroom viewed from bed | WM-FM 34 in | 36 to 42 in | 56 to 62 in | Keep bed and curtains 3 ft away |
| Thin wall, home with kids | Panorama 30 in Extra Slim | 36 to 42 in | 56 to 62 in | Needs 4 in to recess |

Frequently asked questions
How high should an electric fireplace be from the floor?
Amantii’s manuals only set minimums: 1 inch for WM-FM wall mounts and 2 inches for Symmetry Bespoke. For viewing, Napoleon recommends no more than 42 inches to the bottom of an electric fireplace.
Does Amantii give a recommended mounting height?
No. The manuals we read cover clearances and wiring, not an ideal height.
What is the right wall mount electric fireplace height with a TV above?
Go lower so the TV stays comfortable to watch, and check your model’s mantel clearance in our TV guide.
How high should a linear electric fireplace be?
Low, from about 6 inches up, for a hearth look; higher, but with the bottom at 42 inches or less, if you view it from a table, island or bed.
Where should the outlet go?
Beside the fireplace, not above it, ideally on a dedicated circuit. The Amantii models covered here have the plug on the left side.
