Rove describes the chair as a reproduction and states that it is not manufactured by or affiliated with the original designer or associated parties. It also notes a removable metal tag whose adhesive can be stubborn on wood, so peel it slowly.

The original is the CH24, designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1949 and, according to Carl Hansen & Søn’s Behind an icon: CH24 page, in continuous production there since 1950. Carl Hansen says each chair takes more than 100 production steps, uses 14 wooden components with mortise and tenon joints, and has a seat woven by hand from more than 120 metres of paper cord, which takes about an hour per chair.

On paper the two are almost the same size, and both use a solid wood frame with a hand-woven paper cord seat. The differences that matter are provenance, wood species, finish choices and price. The original carries the Wegner and Carl Hansen name, is made in the factory that has produced it since 1950 and offers oak, which Rove does not. Rove’s version costs a fraction of the price and is tested to ANSI/BIFMA standards. The Wishbone is a light, open chair. The 15.7 inch seat depth is shallower than most upholstered dining chairs, which suits upright dining and shorter legs, and the paper cord has a little give. The curved top rail doubles as armrests and a backrest at roughly the height of your lower back. People who like to lounge at the table for hours sometimes add a flat seat cushion.
