Are Rove Concepts Couches Comfortable? Seat Depth and Feel

Are Rove Concepts couches comfortable? For most people, yes, but “comfortable” depends on your height, how you sit and whether you like a soft or firm seat. Rove sofas range from deep, down-topped lounge sofas to firmer, more upright designs, and the published seat depths vary by more than 8 inches across the range. This guide compares seat depth, seat height, cushion fill and the feel rating on each product page, so you can match a Rove couch to your body instead of guessing from photos. We are an authorized Rove Concepts dealer, and every spec below comes from the Rove product pages on our store.

Are Rove Concepts couches comfortable? The short answer

Rove builds most of its sofas the same way: a kiln-dried hardwood frame with doweled joints and reinforced corner blocks, 8-gauge sinuous springs on many models, and 3-layer high-density foam seat cushions, sometimes topped with goose feathers or down. What changes from model to model is the shape: how deep the seat is, how high it sits and how soft the top layer feels. Rove labels each sofa with a feel rating (Soft, Medium or Medium-Firm), which is the best single clue to comfort.

  • Want to sink in and lounge? Look at Soft-rated, feather-topped models like the Milo, Maria and Dresden.
  • Want to sit upright with good support? Look at Medium-Firm models like the Hadrian or Porter.
  • Somewhere in between? Medium-rated models like the Belia and Reya.

Rove Concepts sofa comfort compared

Here are the published numbers from each product page at the time of writing. Seat depth is front edge to back cushion; seat height is floor to top of the seat cushion.

Nuvo 23.6 in 16.9 in Soft 2 layers of foam topped with feather cotton $2,743
Diane 24.4 in 16.5 in Soft 3-layer foam, sinuous springs $2,468
Dante 24.8 in 17.3 in Soft 3-layer foam, sinuous springs $2,743
Porter 25 in 14.5 in Medium-Firm 3-layer foam, sinuous springs $2,743
Milo 25.2 in 17.7 in Soft 3-layer foam topped with goose feathers, sinuous springs $2,659
Belia Open End 26.7 in 15.7 in Medium 3-layer foam $4,563
Maria 31 in 17.7 in Soft 3-layer foam topped with goose feathers, sinuous springs $3,527

The popular Berlin Sofa ($2,799) does not list a seat depth, but its overall depth is 39.4 inches, it is only 25 inches tall, it is rated Soft, and its foam cushions are topped with 100% goose down. Read our full Berlin sofa review for more detail.

Seat depth: the number that decides comfort

Seat depth matters more than almost anything else. If a seat is too deep, your knees will not reach the front edge while your back touches the cushions, so you slouch or pile on pillows. If it is too shallow for your legs, the seat feels perched and upright.

The easiest test is at home. Sit on a sofa or chair you find comfortable, measure from the front edge of the seat to the back cushion, and compare that number with the table above. As a rough guide:

  • Shorter people who like to sit with feet flat often prefer the shallower end of the range, such as the Hadrian or Nuvo.
  • Taller people and anyone who lounges with legs tucked up tend to enjoy the deeper seats, such as the Belia or Maria at 31 inches.
  • Mixed households can split the difference with a mid-depth sofa and use throw pillows to make the seat shallower for shorter family members.

Seat height and getting up easily

Seat height changes how a sofa feels just as much. The Porter and Arya sit low at 14.5 inches, which looks sleek and relaxed but takes more effort to stand up from. The Hadrian is the tallest here at 18.5 inches, which suits anyone with knee or hip stiffness. If you are unsure, measure the seat height of a chair you find easy to get out of and use that as your benchmark.

Is Rove furniture good quality?

Comfort that lasts depends on construction, so here is what the product pages state:

  • Frames: kiln-dried hardwood with doweled joints and reinforced corner blocks on every sofa in the table except the Nuvo, whose page does not describe its frame.
  • Suspension: 8-gauge sinuous springs on the Milo, Porter, Diane, Dante, Hadrian and Maria.
  • Testing: several pages, including the Berlin, Diane and Kaye, say the sofa is tested to ANSI/BIFMA safety and durability standards.
  • Warranty: our Rove sofa pages list the Rove Concepts 5-year limited warranty.

One trade-off to know: feather and down toppers feel wonderful but need regular plumping to keep their shape. All-foam cushions stay neater with less care but feel a little firmer.

A Rove Concepts couch review of the feel ratings

We do not publish star ratings or invented customer quotes. What we can do is translate Rove’s own feel labels:

Soft

Milo, Maria, Diane, Dante, Nuvo, Berlin, Dresden and Tanner are rated Soft. Expect more sink when you sit down, especially on the feather-topped Milo, Maria, Berlin and Dresden. The Tanner ($3,036) is all-foam but described as having an inviting, sink-in feel.

Medium

The Belia and Reya Curved Sectional ($4,661) are rated Medium: supportive without feeling hard. Compare the Belia and Berlin head to head in our Berlin vs Belia guide.

Medium-Firm

The Hadrian, Porter and Arya are rated Medium-Firm. The Porter page describes its cushions as “nicely rounded and perfectly firm”. Good for upright sitting, working from the sofa and anyone who dislikes sinking.

Washable and modular: the Kaye

The Kaye Sofa L ($2,743) uses blended bio cotton filling, an elevated backrest pillow and fully removable covers, which is a practical choice for pets and kids. It does not list a feel rating.

Frequently asked questions

Are Rove Concepts couches comfortable for tall people?

Many are. Taller people usually prefer deeper seats, such as the Belia Open End (26.7 in) or the Maria (31 in). Pair a deep seat with a higher seat height if your knees rise above your hips on low sofas.

Which Rove Concepts sofa is the softest?

Rove rates the Milo, Maria, Diane, Dante, Nuvo, Berlin, Dresden and Tanner as Soft. The feather- or down-topped models (Milo, Maria, Berlin and Dresden) will feel the most sink-in.

Is Rove furniture good quality?

The pages list kiln-dried hardwood frames with doweled joints and corner blocks on most sofas, sinuous springs on many, ANSI/BIFMA testing on several models, and a 5-year limited warranty. That is solid construction for the price range.

Do Rove couches get less comfortable over time?

Feather and down toppers flatten if they are not plumped, so fluff them regularly. All-foam cushions hold their shape with less effort but feel firmer from day one.
