This Rove Concepts Tulip table review is for anyone weighing a Saarinen-style pedestal table without paying for the original. Rove sells its Tulip tables as “Rove Classics” reproductions and states on each product page that the item “is not manufactured by or affiliated with the original designer(s).” Below are the sizes, tops, prices and build details from our pages and Rove’s, how they compare with the Knoll original, and what to check before buying any Tulip table replica.

Build: base, tops and weight
Cast aluminum pedestal
Every Rove Tulip table uses a cast aluminum base with what Rove calls a 5-step powder coat, resistant to chipping, in a gloss finish. White and black bases are offered. Cast aluminum is the right material here: it is what lets one slim stem hold a heavy marble top without tipping.
Lacquer vs marble top
- Lacquer: satin lacquer over California Phase 2 compliant MDF with a beveled underside edge. Much lighter (Rove lists the 40 in round at 55 lb) and less expensive. It will not etch, but it can chip if hit hard.
- Carrara marble: natural stone finished with a sealant, so veining varies piece to piece. Rove lists the 52 in round at 176 lb and the 79 in oval at 244.3 lb. Rove’s product care page explains that sealant only slows absorption and does not prevent etching from acidic foods, and recommends coasters, place mats and a marble cleaner and sealer.
If you have young kids or cook with a lot of citrus, wine and tomato, the lacquer top is the lower-stress choice. If you want the classic look and will use coasters, marble is the one people picture.
Tulip table replica vs original
The original is Eero Saarinen’s Pedestal Collection, still made by Knoll. Knoll’s Saarinen Dining Table, Round page explains he wanted to clear away what he called “the slum of legs” under tables and chairs. Here is how the Knoll page and Rove’s pages compare:
| Knoll Saarinen round | Rove Concepts Tulip round | |
|---|---|---|
| Round sizes | 35, 42, 47, 54, 60 in | 36, 40, 44, 48, 52 in (marble); 40, 48 in (lacquer) |
| Height | 28.25 in | 28.5 in |
| Tops | Many marbles, granite, quartz, slate, laminate, veneers | White Carrara marble or white lacquer |
| Base | Cast aluminum with Rilsan finish; black, white, cream, grey | Cast aluminum, powder coated; white or black |
| Price shown | $4,983 for the default configuration | $1,259 to $2,672 from us |
| Warranty | 5 years (Knoll page) | Rove 5-year limited warranty on structural failures |
| Authenticity | KnollStudio logo and Saarinen signature stamped under the base | Not affiliated with the original designer |
The honest summary: the replica gets the silhouette and a solid cast aluminum base at a fraction of the price, with far fewer top choices and no resale value as a design piece. Knoll’s page showed a 7 week ship time for in-home delivery when we checked. If owning the authentic piece matters to you, buy the Knoll. If you want the look at the table every day, the replica does the job.
Best Tulip table replica buying tips
- Base material: look for cast aluminum. Lighter stamped or plastic-shrouded bases can wobble with a stone top.
- Top weight vs base: a heavy marble top needs a heavy base. Ask for both weights.
- Marble sealing: ask what sealer is used and plan to reseal.
- Size honestly: a 40 in round is a two to four person table. Use our dining table size guide for seating and clearance.
- Chairs: a pedestal leaves the whole edge free, so chair count depends only on chair width. Our Wishbone chair pairing guide works through round tables, and the Wishbone chair review covers the chair itself.
