Rove Concepts vs Crate and Barrel is a matchup between an online, mid-century-leaning modern brand and a large American home retailer with stores, a huge catalog and in-home delivery. If you are shopping for a modern sofa or looking for a Crate and Barrel alternative, the real differences are in construction details you can verify, how delivery is priced, and what you can return. We are an authorized Rove Concepts dealer, so we have a stake here; everything below comes from pages we opened on 3 October 2026, and we have kept it to facts both brands publish.

Construction: what each brand tells you
Both brands publish real build details on their sofa pages, which makes a like-for-like check possible.
Rove Concepts
The Rove Concepts Porter Sofa lists a kiln-dried hardwood frame with doweled joints and reinforced corner blocks, 8 gauge sinuous spring construction and 3-layer high-density foam cushions. It measures 84.6 in wide x 38.1 in deep x 24.4 in high, with a 25 in seat depth, a 14.5 in seat height and a 990 lb weight capacity. The Berlin Sofa uses the same kiln-dried hardwood frame description with 3-layer high-density foam topped with goose down feathers, at 94.6 x 39.4 x 25 in. Modular pieces such as the Tanner Sofa (63 x 37 x 31 in, 463 lb max) let you build up over time.
Crate and Barrel
Crate and Barrel’s Lounge 93 in Sofa page (crateandbarrel.com/lounge-93-sofa/s505694) describes a benchmade frame of FSC-certified hardwood kiln-dried to prevent warping, a spring-up Flexolator foundation, plant-based polyfoam seat cushions wrapped in a fiber and feather-down blend, and fiber-down back cushions. It measures 93 in wide x 41 in deep x 37 in high and is made in the USA of domestic and imported materials. The page showed 3,466 reviews.
On paper, both use kiln-dried hardwood frames and real suspension. The feel differs: the Lounge is a deep, high-backed sink-in sofa, while Rove leans toward lower, tailored mid-century profiles. If seat depth matters to you, our sofa depth guide explains what fits tall and short sitters.
Price
On 3 October 2026 the Lounge 93 in Sofa showed a sale price of $1,911 with a regular price of $2,249. At our store the Porter Sofa is $2,743 and the Berlin Sofa is $2,799, before any promotions. So for comparable sofas, Crate and Barrel’s sale pricing can come in lower than Rove’s regular price.
Rove’s own pricing has another layer: members get large discounts, and Rove’s members terms say those benefits are valid only at roveconcepts.com, not through resellers. Run the numbers in our Rove Concepts membership guide before you decide. Buying Rove from us makes sense mainly when you want our free freight on orders of $999 or more, a single order with other brands, or our US-based support at 866-777-2590 (Mon to Fri, 9AM to 6PM PST).
Delivery
Rove Concepts
Rove’s store policy lists flat-rate standard shipping of $159 on orders up to $5,000 retail price to the US and Canada, excluding Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, Nunavut, Yukon and the Northwest Territories. Standard and White Glove shipments have an estimated transit time of 1 to 3 weeks. White Glove includes a delivery appointment, placement inside up to one flight of stairs, assembly and removal of large packaging, and Rove says it carries a significant surcharge.
Crate and Barrel
Crate and Barrel’s shipping and delivery FAQ (crateandbarrel.com/customer-service/faq-shipping-delivery) lists local in-home delivery at $179 for furniture orders under $999 within 100 miles of a shipping point, $289 for unlimited furniture within 100 miles, and $399 beyond 100 miles. In-home service includes a two-person crew, placement in the room of your choice and packaging removal, with assembly unless noted. Local in-home delivery is usually within 7 to 14 business days, and long-distance in-home delivery takes about 2 to 4 weeks. Changing a delivery less than 3 days out costs $35.
Bottom line: Crate and Barrel’s in-home fee already includes room placement, while Rove’s $159 is standard shipping and White Glove costs more. Compare the service level you actually want.
Returns
Rove’s refund policy requires products to be received back at its warehouse within 30 days of delivery, in original condition. Outside its fulfillment area you arrange and pay for the return shipment yourself, original Standard and White Glove charges are not refunded, and custom orders and Final Sale items cannot be returned. Final Sale items are not covered by Rove’s usual warranty.
Crate and Barrel’s returns and exchanges page (crateandbarrel.com/customer-service/faq-returns-exchanges) allows returns within 30 days of receipt with proof of purchase, says shipping charges are not refundable and that customers pay return shipping and any pickup fees, and does not accept returns or exchanges on special-order items made to your specifications.
If you buy Rove through us, our return and refund policy applies to your order instead.
Which should you choose?
- Choose Crate and Barrel if you want to sit on the sofa in a store first, like a deep, plush lounge sofa, or want in-home placement bundled into the delivery fee.
- Choose Rove Concepts if you prefer mid-century and modular designs, want published frame and spring specs, plan to buy several pieces, or will use a Rove membership.
- Buy Rove from us if free freight at $999 or more, or combining Rove with other brands in one order, outweighs member pricing for your basket.

Frequently asked questions
Is Rove Concepts better than Crate and Barrel?
