Rove Concepts vs West Elm: Build, Price and Delivery

Rove Concepts vs West Elm is a common question for anyone shopping for a modern sofa online. Both sell contemporary living room furniture, but they work very differently: Rove is an online-first brand with a members’ pricing model and flat rate shipping, while West Elm is a large retailer with stores, a flat rate furniture delivery program and a mix of in-stock and made to order pieces. This comparison sticks to what each company publishes about build, price and delivery, so you can decide which suits you.

Full disclosure: The Everything Depot is an authorized Rove Concepts dealer. We do not sell West Elm. We have kept this comparison to facts from pages we opened, and we point out where West Elm may be the better fit.

Rove Concepts or West Elm sofa: build and comfort

Rove lists detailed construction on its sofa pages. These examples are from our Rove product pages:

  • Porter Sofa: 84.6 in wide, 25 in seat depth, 14.5 in seat height. Kiln-dried hardwood frame with doweled joints and reinforced corner blocks, 8 gauge sinuous springs and 3 layer high-density foam. Medium-firm feel, 990 lb listed weight capacity, 101 finish options. From $2,743.
  • Diane Sofa: 88.6 in wide, 24.4 in seat depth, 16.5 in seat height, with the same frame, spring and foam construction. Soft feel, 990 lb listed capacity, 55 finish options. From $2,468.
  • Kaye Sectional Sofa S: a modular sectional at 108.5 x 68.5 in with fully removable covers, a tool-free connector system and a 500 lb listed capacity. From $3,779.
  • Porter Sectional: 116 x 69.5 in with a low 12.6 in seat height and a medium feel. From $3,401.

Rove’s pages also state that these pieces are tested to ANSI/BIFMA safety and durability standards and are covered by a 5-year limited warranty, as listed on our Rove product pages.

West Elm sells its own range of sofas, including the Harmony Sofa, which its site offers in widths from 66 to 104 inches and labels Contract Grade. The Harmony product page we opened did not display frame, spring or cushion details in a form we could verify, so we are not going to guess. If build quality is your deciding factor, compare the frame material, joinery, spring system and cushion fill listed on the specific West Elm piece you like with the Rove specs above.

Seat depth matters as much as construction. Rove’s range leans deep and plush, with seat depths around 24 to 25 inches on the Porter and Diane. Read are Rove Concepts couches comfortable for a closer look at feel and depth.

Price: comparing fairly

Rove’s site header currently advertises “Up to 70% off” and “Members now save 40% + 25% voucher.” Members pay much less than Rove’s regular price, and if you are furnishing several rooms a membership may be the cheapest way to buy Rove. We will not claim otherwise.

West Elm has no membership. Its site advertises sale and clearance sections and a rewards program. Compare the exact pieces you want on the same day, with delivery included.

Non-members have a third route for Rove. The Everything Depot sells Rove Concepts at Rove’s regular price with free freight shipping on orders of $999 or more, so a single sofa order avoids Rove’s $159 standard shipping fee. Orders under $999 ship for a flat $200. See where to buy Rove Concepts furniture for the full comparison.

Delivery: what is included

Rove. Standard shipping delivers to the “first dry area,” such as a garage or lobby, and does not include inside delivery, assembly or packaging removal. White Glove adds a delivery appointment, inside placement up to one flight of stairs, assembly and removal of large packaging. Rural zip codes, weekend delivery and storage can add charges. Local delivery near Rove’s warehouses takes 3 to 5 business days, and pick-up is free.

West Elm. Most furniture ships by truck, and its FAQ says this usually includes Premium White Glove service: delivery by appointment to your room of choice, unpacked and fully assembled, with installation excluded. One flat rate covers an unlimited number of eligible furniture items to one address, and that rate depends on distance from the warehouse and your order total.

If you want room-of-choice delivery and assembly included, West Elm’s standard furniture delivery is the more inclusive. Rove’s standard shipping is a known, flat number.

Returns and custom orders

Both give you about 30 days. Rove requires products to be in original packaging and like-new condition, and its Standard and White Glove shipping charges are not refunded once the service has been provided. Damage claims must be filed within 3 calendar days of delivery with photos. Custom orders, Final Sale items and parts cannot be returned.

West Elm excludes made to order furniture, monogrammed items, mattresses and final sale items (prices ending in .97) from returns, and says you may be responsible for return shipping depending on the reason.

Measure doorways, stairs and the room before you order from either. Our Rove Concepts lead times guide explains timing in more detail.

West Elm alternative: who should choose which

Choose Rove Concepts if

  • You want published construction specs, such as kiln-dried hardwood frames and 8 gauge sinuous springs, before you buy
  • You want a very wide fabric range (the Porter lists 101 finishes)
  • You like modular pieces with removable covers, such as the Kaye
  • You plan to buy enough to make a membership worthwhile, or you want free shipping through a dealer on orders of $999 or more

Choose West Elm if

  • You want to sit on a sofa in a store before ordering
  • You want White Glove delivery and assembly as part of standard furniture delivery

Frequently asked questions

Is Rove Concepts better quality than West Elm?

We cannot give a blanket answer and we do not sell West Elm. Rove’s pages list kiln-dried hardwood frames with doweled joints and corner blocks, 8 gauge sinuous springs, 3 layer high-density foam and ANSI/BIFMA testing on models like the Porter and Diane. Compare those details with the specs on the West Elm piece you are considering.

Which is cheaper, Rove Concepts or West Elm?

It depends on the piece, the current promotions and whether you are a Rove member. Rove members pay much less than Rove’s regular price. Compare the exact items, with delivery, on the same day.

Which delivers faster?

Rove estimates 1 to 3 weeks for in-stock items. West Elm lists 2 to 4 weeks for Quick Ship upholstery. For custom pieces, Rove lists 14 to 20 weeks; check the West Elm product page for made to order timing.

Can I buy Rove Concepts without a membership?

Yes. Buy direct at the regular price, or through an authorized dealer like The Everything Depot, where orders of $999 or more ship free. Returns through us follow our return and refund policy.
